Bangkok--14 Dec--Asian Institute of Technology
Horasis partnered with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to bring together highly influential groups of business leaders to discuss collaborative approaches for addressing sustainable growth. The Horasis Asia Meet held in Bangkok on 27-28 November 2018 had AIT playing the role of an academic partner for the annual gathering of business leaders from emerging markets and their global counterparts.
Addressing the delegates, AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai remarked that rapid globalization, digital revolution, mass migration, and the prospect of climate change required a new breed of workforce. He regretted that our education system was still based on twentieth-century assumptions. Users, particularly in the business sector, are unhappy that they are receiving outdated products, Prof. Worsak said.
The education system should equip students with global competencies to stimulate life-long learning and nurture global citizens who can act on issues of global significance, Prof. Worsak added. The AIT President also chaired a dialogue session on "Educating for Employment and Innovation".
AIT's Vice President for Administration, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto represented AIT in the inaugural ribbon-cutting ceremony; while Dean of AIT's School of Management (SOM), Prof. Lawrence Abeln chaired the plenary session at the event. AIT was also represented by Shawn Kelly, Director, Office of External Relations (OEXR), and 12 AIT students hailing from eight countries who acted as event rapporteurs.
AIT student rapporteurs included Ms. Weisi Zhao (China), Ms. Swe Mon (Myanmar), Ms. Wattanee Parmwong (Thailand), Ms. Clara Elizaga (Philippines), Mr. Milan Regmi (Nepal), Dr. Damri Radenamad (Thailand) / SOM, Mr. Muhammad Mujahid Memon (Pakistan), Ms. Peng Xueying (China), Ms. Wendy Wuyts (Belgium), Ms. Chaw Su Tin Htun (Myanmar), Mr. Mohammad Uzzal Hossain (Bangladesh), and Mr. Adeel Tariq (Pakistan).
