The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), jointly with the College of Music, Mahidol University held the 19th "SET Youth Musician Competition" which was aimed to encourage and promote youth's talent and performance in music. The gold medal winners were primary school student Thanita Yongyingsakthaworn; secondary school student Chaithawat Atiphophai; pre-university school student Thanaphat Pratjaroenwanit; and undergraduate student Gamala Siriwat.
SET President Kesara Manchusree said that SET recognizes the importance of youth development in many aspects including musical skills. Thus, SET has continuously cooperated with the College of Music, Mahidol University to hold the annual SET Youth Musician Competition to support Thai youth with music talents. Over the years, this musical competition has allowed more than 18,800 contestants to showcase their talents.
"This year the contest could gather 358 pieces of musical renditions of young talent nationwide to showcase their best talents and efforts. The unique contest, which was opened to all acoustic (non-electric) musical instruments, also encourages folk instruments to preserve Thai traditional music. The participants' development ultimately provides benefit to themselves and the Thai society," said Kesara.
The gold medalists are:
- Primary school student Thanita Yongyingsakthaworn playing piano from Shrewsbury International School
- Secondary school student Chaithawat Atiphophai playing piano from New Sathorn International School
- Pre-university school student Thanaphat Pratjaroenwanit playing marimba from College of Music Mahidol University
- Undergraduate student Gamala Siriwat playing khong wong lek from Kasetsart University
The judges were Varavudh Sumawong, Kitti Sripauraya, Patama Leesawadtrakul, Pratak Faisupagarn, Narit Sektheera, Vinai Phunturak, Vinai Sotthibandhu, Borwonpong Supasopon, Prateep Suphanrojn, Pasakorn Suwanaphan, Songsak Premsuk, Sriprasit Boonvisut, Pannaporn Sapsomboon, Warapatr Todhanakasem, and Vanchai Tantivitayapitak.
