The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), jointly with Romchatra Foundation together with alliances holdsthe 9th "Diamond Crown in Economics" youth competition in order to cultivate knowledge and understanding of economics, personal financial management, as well as principles of sufficiency economy philosophy and life insurance. The goal of the competition is to encourage Thai youth from primary school level up to university level to become quality citizens of the next generation and contribute to the country's economic growth.
SET President Kesara Manchusree said, "Economics and personal financial management are essential life skills that today's youth must possess so that they can grow up to be quality citizens. SET has therefore continued to focus on cultivating the knowledge and understanding of these key subjects among youth. The "Diamond Crown in Economics" program has been held since 2009, participated by over 30,000 students from 7,335 educational institutions nationwide. The competition continues to draw widespread interest, as seen by the record high number of applicants last year. This shows that the Thai society realizes the importance of finance and economics. It is significant that this project can promote, enhance and strengthen the teaching and learning of economics in educational institutions, finally capable of competing at national level."
This year, the 9th "Diamond Crown in Economics" youth competition is more intensive with theoretical and applied knowledge of economics, personal financial management, principles of sufficiency economy philosophy, and life insurance altogether. The students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, analyses, and presentation skills during the final round. Such experience will benefit these young people in further achieving excellence in economics and finance. In addition, the event also includes an exhibition under the theme "A Bright Future with Disciplined Savings", as well as seminars to keep the teachers and parents well-informed about financial planning for retirement in this aging society.
The 9th annual "Diamond Crown in Economics" competition for 2017 is organized by SET together with Romchatra Foundation, Faculty of Economics of Chulalongkorn University, Satriwitthaya 2 School under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Mother, and Thai Life Assurance Association. The Capital Market Development Foundation, Economic Intelligence Center ,Siam Commercial Bank PCL , and President Bakery PCL are co-sponsors. Primary and secondary school students can apply from today until July 31, 2017 and the competition will be held during September 2–3, 2017 at Satriwitthaya 2 School. The higher education or university students have to apply from August 1 to September 24, 2017 and the competitionwill be held on October 8, 2017. The awards include trophies, scholarships, and study trips abroad with a total value of more than THB 1 million.
