Bangkok--31 May--Seagate Technology
Seagate Technology (Thailand) Limited and the National Science Museum (NSM) jointly launched a series of "Science Caravan", a science exhibition held at The Mall Nakorn Ratchasima. The caravan is set to inspire young students to be passionate about science studies and careers through hands-on learning experiences from the various activities and be challenged by fun and unique science games.
Mr. Wichian Chantaranothai, Nakorn Ratchasima Governor said, "The "Science Caravan Activity" will let young children recognize that science, technology and innovation are directly involved with their daily lives. Moreover, they will realize that science is not just another difficult subject they have to learn in classes. Apart from the creation of fun experiences and positive attitude towards science, this science caravan will attract these young students' interests to pursue their science education in the higher levels. On behalf of people in Korat, I would like to thank NSM and Seagate for hosting this valuable activity for young people, their family members and the general public in our province."
Science Caravan will be held in Korat from May 18-23. It consists of the Mobile Exhibits that challenge young children to search for the best solutions from the hands-on Science on the Move Exhibition. The Science Shows promote science learning in the enjoyable and excited setting for young children.
In the Science Games and Gadgets, youngsters will have the opportunity to invent new toys based on their ideas and imagination. The Planetarium activity lets young children learn more about stars, planets and our solar system. This NSM Science Dome is a planetarium that uses a 360 degree projector allowing visitors to see the magical night sky, from anywhere on Earth. The Dome also shows science films on the 3D and 360 degree screen.
"As one of the state organizations under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Technology, we have complied with the ministry policies in supporting science and technology education for the Thai society. The Science Caravan Activity has been executed with the aim to present and promote science learning that is accessible for youths in the regional areas. Of course, we focus on bringing the new and cutting-edge science experiences along with valuable knowledge to the youths." said Mrs. Ganigar Chen, Director, Office of the Public Awareness of Science, National Science Museum.
The launch of "Science Caravan" in Korat comes from the continuation of success in the collaborative project among these two organizations. The "Science and Technology Education Development Project by NSM and Seagate Thailand" has been carried out for 2 straight years. Such project provides young people with the opportunity to visit NSM museums and participate in the Science & STEM Cultural Camps.
This year, Seagate Thailand offers 1.47 million Baht sponsorship to NSM to support two important projects. The first project is the "Science Studies for Underprivileged Children at NSM" that offers opportunity for more than 2,200 students from under budget schools across Thailand to gain new knowledge and experiences from the extracurricular learning and hands-on experience. These young children will learn from exhibits at NSM Khlong 5, Pathumthani province in the Science Museum, Natural History Museum and IT Museum. The second project is the "Science Caravan Activity" held in Korat to support science learning abilities of about 2,000 Prathom 4 to Mathayom 3 students, young people, their family members and the general public. After organizing the activity at The Mall Korat Department Store, the Science Caravan Activity will be moved to the school in Sungnoen District, nearby Seagate Korat plant.
Mrs. Piangruetai Sivaratana, Vice President of Korat Operation, Seagate Technology (Thailand) Limited said, "As a global data storage solution provider with the manufacturing base in Nakorn Ratchasima province, Seagate Thailand's main attempt is to inspire young people in our local communities to take interest in STEM.. The Science Caravan is the academic integration that can help to shape young people's mindset in the positive way. Our employees also volunteer so they can be part of this sustainable social and community development. By inspiring the future generations in STEM education, we will have the needed workforce to further develop our country in the future."
Thunyapimol Suankaew, a Prathom 4/KWC student, Sukanaree School said "When I study at school, my favorite subject is science. In this subject, I like to learn about animal growth. I really enjoy with many activities in Science Caravan. I'll also adapt the knowledge I have learnt today for my study in the future."
Achawin Chinnawong, a Prathom 4/IWC student, Sukanaree School said "Science Caravan let me enjoy doing some new activities that I have never done before in the classroom. It's a great fun for me."
