Partners with Plan Thailand in Global 'Skills to Succeed' Initiative
Accenture in Thailand recently partnered with Plan Thailand in organizing a training workshop session for over hundred students in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai aimed at enhancing job training and career opportunities for the students as they embark upon career oriented, entrepreneurial activities.
The workshop was one of many activities organized under Accenture's global 'Skills to Succeed' initiative in which Accenture and its non-profit partners have equipped more than 1.2 million people around the world with the skills to get a job or build a business since 2010.
Accenture in Thailand has collaborated with Plan Thailand since 2012 in developing and implementing The Young Entrepreneurship Development Project (YEDP) to address the issue of economic security amongst marginalised youth by developing a training curriculum that incorporates Accenture Thailand's expertise in business management along with the necessary entrepreneurial skills.
In 2016 the YEDP project was recently targeted towards marginalised youth from 10 communities around the Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces to form 10 business groups which were comprised of around 10-15 youth per group. The majority of these youth are from an ethnic minority hill-tribe background ages between 15-25 years old.
"With our core values at the heart of our efforts, we are committed to collaborating with a diverse range of partners to deliver long-lasting, measurable solutions," said Supiya Balakul, Managing Director of Accenture, "In Thailand we see an exceptional opportunity to make a difference in the communities where we work and live – from closing employment gaps to advancing client sustainability to accelerating gender equality in the workforce.
"For the program in Chiang Rai, our Accenture mentors actively engaged the hill tribal youth with hands-on, coaching on becoming self-starting and ambitious contributors to society. We have equipped them with the necessary skills and tools from business planning to risk mitigation to successfully build their own small business. It is very encouraging to see how proactive and determined these youths are in applying what they learn to create a real business that helps provide economic security for themselves and their community," concluded Supiya.
The Accenture volunteers participated in the entrepreneurship training sessions as trainers and also as reviewers to provide feedback and make recommendations on the business plans that the target beneficiaries produce following the trainings. A business start-up fund will be granted to each group according to their business requirement and supervision of Accenture mentor group and Plan Thailand.
