Nestle (Thai) Ltd. once again collaborated with the Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand (FoSTAT) to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the FoSTAT-Nestle Quiz Bowl, a nationwide annual quiz about food science and technology. Over 200 students from both public and private universities around Thailand take part in the event each year. More than 3,400 active food scientists have participated in this event over the past 15 years while they were students.
Nestle (Thai) Ltd. has sponsored the FoSTAT-Nestle Quiz Bowl for 15 consecutive years to emphasize Nestle's purpose of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future by enabling food science students to become experts in food science and technology. This includes providing significant support by offering detailed knowledge about nutrition benefiting society and further developing and advancing Thailand's food science and technology industries to a global level.
Over 70 student teams participated in this year's event. Each four-member team competes in the extremely challenging quiz to answer questions in four categories: 1) Food Chemistry; 2) Food Safety and Microbiology; 3) Food Processing and Engineering; and 4) General Knowledge. The contest is divided into two rounds for all contestants, with 20 teams qualifying for the final round. The winning team of the FoSTAT-Nestle Quiz Bowl 2017, from King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, received a trophy from His Excellency Mr. Ampol Senanarong, Former Privy Councilor, and will participate in an educational trip to the Nestle Research & Development Center in Singapore, where they will be inspired by experiencing the importance of scientific research and development in a real-life food and beverage business environment. The first runner-up was a team from Kasetsart University; second runner-up was a team from Prince of Songkla University; and third runner-up was a team from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
To celebrate the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the FoSTAT-Nestle Quiz Bowl, the organizing team also held a special activity, bringing together senior food scientists who previously took part during the last 15 years of the FoSTAT-Nestle Quiz Bowl to celebrate and share their experiences as food scientists. The event took place at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) Bangna.
