The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will organize "SET Social Impact Day 2017," a platform to link business and social cooperation under the theme "Partnership for the Goals: Combining Forces for Sustainability." Over thirty social enterpriseswill be showcased, and opportunities will be offered for the business sectors to work together to create socially sustainable results, or social impact. The event will be held on July 13 at the exchange's building in Bangkok.
SET President Kesara Manchusree stated that SET continues to focus on sustainable development in tandem with business operations-guided by the vision: "To Make the Capital Market 'Work' for Everyone"- by encouraging listed companies and investors to take into account environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects in their operations and decision making. SET also acts as an intermediary linking listed companies to the social sector through the SET Social Impact Platform in order to promote socially responsible investing. In the meantime, investing corporate resources are not only for monetary profit, but also for social impact by creating benefits for community and society as a whole. Businesses can achieve social benefits by providing resources including capital, knowledge, facilities, or product distribution channels to express support and engage in social responsibility.
"Business sector will gain information of social issues that socially-conscious business entrepreneurs should seek to address and understand thoroughly the social responsibility requirements. Furthermore, by practicing social responsibility, businesses could take a step forward and contribute to sustainable development," added Kesara.
Among the highlights of the program at SET Social Impact Day 2017 are the Partnership Talk session, presenting perspective on sustainable outcome and sustainable social development by Dr. Sirikul Laukaikul, Brand Strategist & Sustainability Advisor, The Brand Being Consultant Co., Ltd. The Partnership Sharing session will be joined by Dr. Visuth Vitayathanagorn, Chairman of the Executive Board of Thai Vegetable Oil pcl (TVO); Onuma Rerkpattanapipat, Head of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Total Access Communication pcl (DTAC); and Surangkana Techapaitoon, M.D., Director of Samitivej Children's Hospital and Blix Pop Co., Ltd., a social enterprise which sells developmental products for special needs children.
To further illustrate the social impact, there will also be a "Partners for Partnership" section that will feature Over thirty social enterprises to present their approaches in alleviating social problems, both at exhibition booths and during breakout sessions where the four key dimensions of social responsibility will be discussed: community development; education and sanitation; environment; as well as women, children, the elderly, and the underprivileged. In addition, there will be exhibition booths offering CSR & sustainable development consultations for listed companies, such as how to prepare sustainable development reports, among others. Finally, products and services of over 20 social enterprises, including products from communities under the government's Pracha Rath projects will be available for purchase throughout the day at their booths.
