Bangkok--25 Sep--TQPR Thailand
On 2 December 2017, the ASICS Relay will take place in Bangkok, Thailand. The ASICS Relay demonstrates ASICS's commitment to running as a sport and its salute to team spirit.
The participants will start at the asymmetrical, cable-stayed Rama VIII Bridge. The bridge, named after the late King Ananda Mahidol, was officially opened in 2002.
Each runner from the teams of four will start from the Rama VIII Bridge, which spans 300m across the Chao Phraya River. The circuit will be completed when the runner circles back to hand off the relay sash to the next team member, who then repeats the route. The sights of Wat Intharawihan, a 14th-century temple famous for its 32m-tall gold Buddha statue, and the Bang Khun Phrom Palace, a magnificent European-style structure that currently houses the Bank of Thailand Museum, will complement the ASICS Relay route.
This year's ASICS Relay started in Jakarta, Indonesia (19 August at the Alam Sutera Mall) with 1,600 participants. The race will then continue in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (7 October in Putrajaya city) and Singapore (4 November at the former Kallang Airport). The ASICS Relay 2017 series will wrap up in Bangkok.
To add to the ASICS Relay's spirit of fun, awards will be given to teams (Male, Female, and Mixed) that clock the fastest timing in each full marathon and half marathon race categories. The overall champion teams will be announced in Bangkok, and these teams will be awarded with travel vouchers worth approximately THB73,000 (SGD3,000).
Three thousand teams across the four cities are expected to participate in the ASICS Relay 2017. The distinctive format of the ASICS Relay calls for a team of four to complete either the full 42km or half 21km marathon, with each member running a quarter of the total distance. The format eschews the individual endurance required in a typical marathon, instead drawing on the motivational strength of teamwork and building camaraderie as each team completes the marathon in unity.
Spurring teams on will be prizes worth THB11,300 to THB37,000.
ASICS recognizes the increasing popularity of running in Asia, and created the ASICS Relay to be a fun and bonding running experience for anyone interested in the sport, whether they are fitness explorers, adventure seekers, health enthusiasts or recreational participants.
"Introducing the ASICS Relay to more South-east Asian countries affirms our historical association with running. It is heartening to see participants from all walks of life, regulars and first-timers, complete the marathon. We look forward to welcoming this year's runners," said Kenji Oh, Asia Marketing Director of ASICS Asia Pte. Ltd.
