Bangkok--26 Sep--KASIKORNBANK
Mr. Pornchai Theerawetch, Adviser on Finance of the Fiscal Policy Office and the Deputy Spokesman of the Ministry of Finance, says that the MOF has presented 1,012 awards totaling 6.9 million Baht to debit cardholders and EDC-equipped merchants at the fourth round of the Debit Card Lucky Drawing. Spending via debit cards during the round covered all retail commerce segments, e.g., gas stations, F&B venues, supermarkets and minimarts, affirming successful promotion of cashless transactions within the populace, which should advance Thailand toward becoming a 'Cashless Society' soon.
The award ceremony was held at the PTT Gas Station, PTT Head Office. Dr. Somchai Sujjapongse, Permanent Secretary for Finance, chaired the ceremony and presented the first prize of 1 million Baht to Ms. Chananya Jarupat, owner of PTT Ratchapruek Petroleum. Also at the ceremony, Ms. Sirithida Phanomwan Na Ayutthaya, Assistant Governor for Payment Systems Policy and Financial Technology Group of the Bank of Thailand, gave the first prize for debit cardholder, 1 million Baht, to Mr. Jeatsada Yothikul, who broadly uses his debit card in lieu of cash for spending wherever possible; he also won the 7th prize in July, proving that the "more you use it, the greater your chances to win". Other honorable guests at the event included Mr. Krisada Chinavicharana – Director General of the Fiscal Policy Office, Mr. Suwat Techawatanawana – KBank Executive Vice President and Ms. Jiraporn Khaosawas – PTT Executive Vice President.
Other awards, totaling THB4.6 million, were credited into winners' accounts, with 10 second prizes of 300,000 Baht each to EDC-equipped merchants, and 1,000 third to seventh place prizes being awarded 100,000 Baht-2,000 Baht. These awards are paid by the Government Lottery Office.
There will be eight more monthly contests in the Debit Card Lucky Drawing program through to May 2018 (using the transaction records of April 2018) offering 1,001 prizes per month to cardholders and 6-30 prizes per month for merchants, totaling 55.1 million Baht in value. One transaction of card spending or card acceptance via an EDC device earns one prize drawing entry. The prizewinner lists are announced on the 16th day of each successive month at www.epayment.go.th. The Ministry of Finance retains the prizes for three months after the end of the announcement month.
