Facilitating transportation for Thai people by SRT, BMTA, and Bor Kor Sor to attend the Royal Cremation Ceremony from 25 to 29 October, 2017.
This morning (October 16, 2017) Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon, Chief Operation Officer, Downstream Petroleum Business Group, PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) and Mr. Arnon Luangboriboon, Inspector General of Ministry of Transport Acting Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), Mr. Prayoon Choygeo, Duputy Director (Bus Operation) Acting Director of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), Mr. Jirasak Yaovatsakul, President of The Transport Co., Ltd (Bor Kor Sor), held a press conference to reveal that PTT will join with 3 state enterprises to support the attendees of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's Royal Cremation Ceremony between 25 – 29 October by sponsoring gasoline for transporting people from 22 to 31 October.
Mr. Auttapol said that according to the government's suggestion for people who plan to attend the Royal Cremation Ceremony of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej to commute with public transportation, PTT has coordinated with the state enterprises responsible for mass transportation namely SRT, BMTA, and Bor Kor Sor by supporting gasoline for the transportation that commuted people to attend the ceremony. Other than transportation, PTT also arranged the making of sandal wood flowers at the gas stations around the country for people to participate in paying respect to farewell the late king for the royal cremation and distribute them to communities and temples in the area of each station.
Mr. Arnon revealed that SRT increased the number of train services to help accommodate people by adding more 3rd class speed trains (a free train service) from countryside to Bangkok at Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Nong Khai, and Hat Yai Rail Station (4 trains per day). Moreover, 28 diesel trains will be added per day from Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, and Chachoengsao to Bangkok and extra cabins will be added for 244 express and fast trains to carry about 120,000 passengers per day, which is considered as efficient transportation system for public convenience and safety.
Mr. Prayoon said BMTA arranged a total of 46 bus routes to Sanam Luang to facilitate the travel of the people. Buses with a sticker at the front, back, and side are fare free public buses (ordinary buses only) which will be stopped for passengers to board at 5 locations: Merry King Intersection, Arun Ammarin Intersection, Visutkasat Intersection, Nang Leang Racecourse, and Ban Manangkhasila. For air-conditioned buses, fare will be charged at normal rate. Additionally, BMTA will provide 24-hour service for 46 bus routes on 26 October.
Mr. Jirasak stated that Bor Kor Sor joined hand with PTT who provide fuel that was transferred into 20% discount to people who use public transport service over a distance of 300 kilometers across the country from 25-29 October, excluding 2 suburb routes from Bangkok to Saraburi and Bangkok to Ayutthaya as discount is applied on 26 October only. Moreover, free 50 parking spots will be provided for group visitors at Southern Bus Terminal (Pinklao) and free 100 spots at the expressway area opposite to Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak) from 25-29 October. The Shuttle Bus will also be arranged for free of charge from Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak) to Mor Chid BTS station.
