Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) recently announced that their new MPV, Mitsubishi XPANDER, received a 4-star rating from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).
Mitsubishi XPANDER went on sale in Indonesia in September 2017. This model is the first Mitsubishi MPV to be tested by ASEAN NCAP. Overall, the model obtained a score of 71.66 points.
In the Adult Occupant Protection category, Mitsubishi XPANDER scored 39.08 points, 18.69 points for Child Occupant Protection and 13.89 points for Safety Assist Technologies categories.
The seven-seater MPV has dual airbags and frontal seatbelt reminders, for both driver and front passenger, as standard.
As part of Mitsubishi's commitment to safety, Mitsubishi XPANDER is fitted with a Safety Assist Technology feature called Emergency Stop Signal, offered as standard or optional, in the countries where it is available. Mitsubishi XPANDER is also fitted with ISOFIX and top tether.
ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General, Ir. Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said:
"Mitsubishi XPANDER is the first MPV tested by ASEAN NCAP under the new protocol for 2017-2020, and the model performed well under this new stricter assessment.
"This shows that Mitsubishi Motors is dedicated to produce safer cars for the ASEAN region in line with our new safety protocol."
Mitsubishi Motors has been trading in Indonesia since the formation of the company in 1970s, and has strong relationships with local partners across the country.
As part of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's pledge to the countries vibrant economy, Mitsubishi XPANDER is produced at MMC's new factory in Bekasi Prefecture, West Java Province.
Since Mitsubishi XPANDER went on sale in Indonesia in September 2017, the number of orders has reached more than 50,000 units for first three months, exceeding the initial sales target of 3,000-4,000 units per month.
MMC plans to deliver Mitsubishi XPANDER to The Philippines from May 2018, and some other ASEAN markets in 2018.

ASEAN NCAP is a new addition to the NCAP organization around the world, which aims to enhance safety standards, raise consumer awareness and encourage a market for safer vehicles in the Southeast Asia region. This is a collaborative effort led by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Global NCAP, in which the latter funded the pilot phase of the project.
