Bangkok--5 Mar--Siam Commercial Bank
Siam Commercial Bank has set aside over 900 million baht within 3 years to strengthen employee skills including the establishment of SCB Academy, a 3,350 square-meter learning center, for enhanced skills aimed at developing personnel into a key talent workforce ready to fulfill the Bank's target of becoming a Tech Bank.
SCB President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Arthid Nanthawithaya said the Bank has adopted a "Going Upside Down" strategy centered on improving performance via five key approaches: Learn the Bank, High Margin Lending, Digital Acquisition, Data Capabilities, and New Business Model. Under the strategy, the Bank has differentiated its working style, applied technologies for enhancing organizational efficiency, and groomed employees to have new competencies and skills to ensure SCB becomes "The Most Admired Bank." Although the bank might have to change its branch platform, it will not abandon staff. Through rotation, transfer, and adjustment of capabilities staff will be positioned in proper working units or the points the organization wants over the next three years in preparation for future global changes coming soon.
With its "Going Upside Down" strategy, SCB is strongly determined to continue developing and investing in key systems and technologies so that all clients receive excellent services. Personnel preparation is also vital under the strategy.
"A key to propelling SCB to reach its goal is to enhance the capabilities of people in the organization and encourage trying something new to enable the Bank to provide more than just banking services. To this end, the Bank has earmarked more than 900 million baht within 3 years to strengthen employee skills including the establishment of SCB Academy, with the main aim of upgrading the skills, knowledge, and competence of staff to prepare them for SCB's goal of becoming a Tech Bank in the near future," said Mr. Arthid.
SCB First Executive Vice President and Dean of SCB Academy Mr. Worawat Suvagondha said the Bank has placed a priority on developing its personnel with the belief that all employees can sharpen their competence for enhanced career advancement opportunities and to prepare themselves for upcoming modern banking business. Because of this, SCB Academy is set up to instill finance and banking knowledge and modern skills in its employees so they can make use of them for work or even daily living and eventually move forward into a new banking age.
SCB Academy is a specific learning center for modern finance and banking set up with the aim of grooming SCB personnel with new knowledge and impressive learning experiences through excellently designed curricula, modern learning technologies, and innovative learning and teaching models. Full facilities and equipment are provided for the enhanced efficiency of learning and teaching for all employees through three components:
Physical Channel: SCB Academy is situated on the 18th and 19th floors of SCB Park Plaza's East Tower in a 3,350 square-meter area, divided into Playground, Hangout, Hemispheric Maze, Brain Gym, Thinking Platform, Connecting Zone, Learning Studio, Immersive Zone and Learning Sphere. Each classroom has a different function. A co-working space is provided on the 18th floor for employees and outsiders to meet and exchange new ideas. A Quiet Zone has also been set up for employees who want privacy for creative thinking useful for their job.
Knowledge-based Channel: SCB Academy prepares various courses designed for the organization to brace for future challenges, whether basic finance and banking courses, online courses, workshops, and immersive learning courses. The academy also collaborates with leading institutions, both locally and overseas, and gurus in a new age of finance and banking technologies to create forums for SCB employees to learn and share ideas and working approaches together throughout the year.
Technology-based Channel: SCB Academy applies new learning technology models to provide employees with easy access to learning and give them new learning experiences such as virtual classrooms, AI-VR technology for learning chapter support, learning from movies produced for employees only, and an online learning society where learning sharing continually takes place.
Such developments will lay the foundation for SCB to move forward to become a Tech Bank and the "Most Admired Bank", attracting a new generation of talented people to jointly build a new working dimension in the banking world of the future. Thus it is a key mission of the academy to develop people into an important driving force of the bank in the long term.
