SETA 2018 STARTS
Asia's Sustainable Energy and Technology Expo has entered its third consecutive year, this time taking place under a "Towards Consolidated Innovative Energy Technology" theme that highlights new technological innovations for Thailand 4.0
[BANGKOK International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC) – March 21, 2018 -Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Air Chief Marshal Dr. Prajin Juntong today presides over the opening ceremony of "Sustainable Energy Technology Asia 2018" (SETA 2018) international symposium and exhibition, held under a "Towards Consolidated Innovative Energy Technology" theme. The opening ceremony also features honorable presences of Transport Minister Mr. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Digital Economy and Social Affairs Minister Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Director General, Energy Policy and Planning Office Dr. Tawatchai Sutabutr and Deputy Permanent Secretary Suwanna Jungrungrueng. They are welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tatchai Sumitra, chairman of SETA 2018.
SETA 2018 Chairman Prof. Dr. Tatchai said that Thailand has hosted SETA 2018 with full support from related ministries and government agencies. The event is aimed at underlining Thailand's leadership in energy, innovations and technology in the region. The event is also a platform for showcasing the country's readiness in term of human resources needed to lead Thailand to becoming a hub for exchanging knowledge and know-how in innovative technology and sustainable energy, in line with the "Towards Consolidated Innovative Energy Technology" concept.
The event targets an issue that the world as well as Asia have to focus on, which is "smart cities." In 2050, the world's urban population is expected to reach 2.4 billion people, or 66 percent of the world's total population. The continuous city expansion has brought new challenges concerning how the rapidly-growing urban population will live and work happily and efficiently. To cope with the challenges, the "smart cities" concept as demonstrated at SETA 2018 must be embraced.
The highlights at SETA 2018 include renewable energy – electricity, wind power, natural oil and gas, digital technology, electric and hybrid cars and battery power, education and competition zone focusing on energy saving. More activities at SETA 2018 involve "Smart Urbanization" exhibition, which presents models of future metropolis with various elements of environmentally-friendly transportation such as EV, light rail trains and shared bikes. To be highlighted are green buildings _ with vertical garden to help eliminate pollution and purify the air, renewable energy such as solar panels and wind power from vertical wind turbines, small cargoes that help save time, save energy and reduce road traffic. There are also vertical vegetable gardens and intelligent farms for urban residents so that people would eat fresh vegetables throughout the year at the lowest cost. All these in addition to smart houses and intelligent condos equipped with intelligent systems and friendly to elderly. In addition, the highlights will also include the smart convenience stores that uses energy wisely and efficiently and allow customers to buy and pay via intelligent technology. The highlights will also be on CCTV and intelligent sensors to efficiently detect events and happenings such as traffic, environment conditions, lighting, security and natural disasters. There will be a data center pulled from various sources. With easy-to-understand data, it enables quick decision making."
Keynote speeches at the opening ceremony will be made by Thailand's Minister of Digital Economy and Society Dr. Pichet Dangrongvej, Japan Ambassador to Thailand Mr. Shiro Sadoshima, Director General of the World Nuclear Association Ms. Agneta Rising and Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) Ir. Dr. Sanjayan Velautham. They will give knowledge and outlooks of energy and technology in the near future.
One of the important highlights at SETA 2018 is the "Smart Urbanization" exhibition, which showcases smart cities in the future with innovations. The 10 factors that make them smart cities are as followed:
1.SETA SMART Energy: Energy-saving building that can self-generate electricity from solar panels and wind turbines. In addition, the shape of the building offers good ventilation with cooling and air-conditioning system using Geo-Thermal Circulation.
2.Smart Home: The showcase of interior living space that incorporates solar energy into everyday life. The energy is stored in the Energy Storage brand cube of Beta Energy, and then used as electricity for home such as coffee makers, air conditioners and light bulbs and to the EV Charging Station to charge electric cars.
3.Smart Farm: The closed-system melon farm that uses the solar power to provide electrical power for the watering and fertilizer systems, soil moisture and humidity measuring/monitoring systems. These monitoring systems can be on smartphone application. In the future, the mobile application can also be linked to payment and e-commerce systems. There is also a showcase of unmanned compact tractors powered by GPS and the use of agricultural drones for spraying medicine and fertilizer. The demonstration of drone delivery is also at the exhibition area.
4. Smart Retail: The 7-Eleven convenience store of CP All showcases its Digital Modern Trade format which uses the application to place orders and pay. In the future, the storefront will provide a charging station for electric motorbikes.
5. Smart CCTV and Sensor: The event will be entirely cover by smart CCTV systems installation that sends data to connect with connect the face detection system and match with the car licences. The data will be sent to the smart data center.
6. Smart City IOC: Phuket is picked by Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA)to be an example of "Smart City". There will be an intelligent control system, signals being sent from various places throughout the city to the control center.
7. Unmanned helicopter: The innovations of futuristic vehicles will be seen working without the need for a driver.
8. Pracharat Poles: The control panel GPS system transmits and distributes the signal to cover the designate area which will support the use of Smart City in the future.
9. Smart Drone: Examples of drones that are used to support the expansion, maintenance and exploration of power plants' transmission systems and high-rise buildings in the city as well as the installation of CCTV cameras on the drones for use in sensitive areas.
10. Smart Light Rail Train: The transportation can accommodate people to commute between cities and outskirt areas. It uses clean energy and is highly suitable to the concept of smart cities.
The exhibition of innovative energy technology from the public and private sectors is equally interesting. For example, PTT Plc. presents the innovations for new energy, energy saving and intelligent inventions such as EV Park & Charge and Battery Park Storage. Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) presents Smart Micro Grid and Smart Home. Meanwhile, China Southern Power Grid (CSG) under the Chinese government introduces high voltage network distribution to ASEAN member countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia. While Beta Energy presents technology for Energy Storage, the unique technology that has a production plant in Thailand.
Mitsubishi Motors offers MIEV electric vehicles as well as Toyota that showcases vehicles using clean energy. Finland's Wartsilla also offers EV Charging and Energy Storage, the products that are highly suitable for Thailand and ASEAN. Last but not least, Thailand's department of industrial works presents the Smart Boiler, an energy-saving boiler which is part of Industry Ministry's Smart Factory that leads to the Industry 4.0.
Visitors can also enjoy demonstrations of small electric vehicles such as electric tuk-tuk and motorcycles. The bike sharing will also be presented. The visitors can closely observe small car lanes traversing the area inside the hall. In addition, there will be the state-of-the-art EV Charging Station on display which is real charging system from leading brands such as Energy Absolute and PTT.
Made-in-Thailand innovative products are also available at affordable prices at the SETA Hybrid Market. Leading manufacturers in the country gather at the event to offer products such as solar water pumps, solar systems for residential homes such as solar roofs or even small electric cars and electronic devices that work through the Internet.
For those who are interested in business opportunities, the event offers a great chance for business matching with participants from Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Germany, Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan, India, Malaysia and Singapore.
