Kasetsart University has held a forum to allow members of the aviation industry to discuss preparations for the single aviation market in ASEAN with views and ideas to be forwarded to the government to inform policymaking.
Assoc. Prof. Siree Chaiseri, Acting Deputy Director for Research at Kasetsart University, made known that the Air Transport R esearch and Consulting Centre of Kasetsart University's Department of Aerospace Engineering organized the forum "Advancing Single Aviation Market (ASAM)" The Seamless ASEAN Skies to serve as a space to collect views and opinions as well as in-depth information on how to prepare and adapt to ASEAN joining its aviation industries into a single market. The forum was honored by Dr. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Transport, who gave a special lecture titled "National Development towards Becoming ASEAN's Aviation Industry Leader".
Conclusions and opinions discussed during the forum have been collected and are to be presented at the ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting (ATM) and the ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STROM), which are to be hosted by Thailand. Kasetsart University chose to host the forum in acknowledgement of its over 25 years as a leading institution of higher learning for aerospace and aviation studies, which positioned it appropriately to assemble the views of both public and private members of the sector.
Participants in the forum included Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co. Ltd., Airports of Thailand Plc., Thai Airways Plc., Thai AirAsia, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, the Economics and Business Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs of Malaysia, the Air Transport Research and Consulting Centre of Kasetsart University's Department of Aerospace Engineering and the Office of Regional Cooperation and Assistance of the International Institute for Trade and Development (Public Organization).
A side-line discussion was also held on the topic "Opportunities and Economic and Technical Drivers for the Single ASEAN Aviation Market" to collect useful views on the government's work to realize a single ASEAN aviation market. Kasetsart University assembled and analysed all views collected at the talk and has summarized key points for presentation to the government via the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand so that they may be used to set goals, directions and plans for aviation in ASEAN.
