About Boston Marathon:
The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon that began in 1897 on Patriots' Day, which is observed on the third Monday in April. It also ranks as one of the world's best-known road racing events and is one of the six World Marathon Majors. This year, the 122nd Boston Marathon will be held on April 16.
The Boston Marathon is regarded by runners across the world as a challenging marathon event in their wish list. Each year, it attracts more than 27,000 runners who meet the qualifying standards in their respective age-gender groups. The Boston Marathon is considered to be one of the world's most difficult marathons due to its course that runs from the west to the east of Massachusetts, starting from Hopkinton to the finish line at Boston's Copley Square where the Boston Marathon Memorial was installed to mark the centennial race. The challenging part of the marathon course is the portion of nearly five miles (about 8 kilometers) up Newton hills, which culminate in Heartbreak Hill at a height of 242 feet above sea level.
