Gypsum wall systems are an inexpensive wall, providing fast-to-install walling that does a great job – and these are perfectly good reasons why it's the number one option globally for installers working on any type of home or office for the last century. Gypsum wall systems make for a much more efficient method of construction and it is flexible in separating rooms, or dividing any area.
In addition to being easy to install, gypsum wall systems provide a fire-resistant interior finish. Gypsum board building systems can generally be installed at significantly lower labour costs than most alternate systems. However, it's widely known that gypsum wall systems yield their comprehensive range of qualities when wet; therefore, it is typically not a strong go-to option for wet areas with high humidity.
Water-damaged Drywall is a practical nightmare to save fully, thanks largely to the way gypsum by its nature encourages water retention and hence mould growth. Mould accumulates in damp and poorly ventilated buildings, and inhaling mould fragments or spores can inflame the airways, causing nasal congestion, wheezing, chest tightness, coughing and throat irritation. Not an ideal wet area solution, then.
Wet areas and areas of high humidity are classified by Levels of Risk, and are specific to whichever walls, floors, junctions and penetrations are to be treated as waterproof or water-resistant. High risk areas are bathrooms and laundry rooms that require a floor waste, and shower areas. Medium risk areas are outside of the shower in bathrooms and adjacent to baths and spas. Low risk areas are typically utility rooms and toilets, as well as other walls adjoining sinks and tubs (although there is some installer-side discussion regarding this).
A new generation of gypsum board products has recently been introduced to overwhelm convention and alter these traditional perceptions towards gypsum products and gypsum wall. Typically the most standard option is brick; however, due to recent technology innovation in the field of material science by Gyproc, a new product is now widely available in Thailand which turns the tide on water damage and wet-area effectiveness for gypsum drywall.
Moisture-resistant product solutions in gypsum that retain all of the great benefits of simple, easy, cost-effective drywall have been the target of construction material manufacturers for decades.
Gyproc introduced a range of high performance lining boards for wet rooms which form a complementary system, and in either specific applications or when used in unison can deliver on that dream. Moisture-resistant, quick to install, mould resistant, fire-retardant, long in service life and easy to understand and improvise through on site – all designed to deliver the ultimate goal, which is a Multi-Comfort solution which aims to improve comfort, health and wellbeing of homeowners through a better built environment.
Gyproc gypsum wall moisture-resistant product solutions bring desirable characteristics when compared to traditional gypsum drywall, and offer homeowners premium benefits coupled with an extremely long service life. Gyproc walls are designed to deliver increased protection against the absorption and infiltration of moisture, and/or enhanced resistance to the growth of mildew and mould.
Gyproc(R) Glasroc(R) H OCEAN is Gyproc's recommended solution for internal wet area applications where normal water exposure is expected and it also brings strength in application performance to which tiling can be applied. It's also simple to finish in those areas where tiles are not installed. The highly inorganic composition of this board allows it to be more resistant to moisture and mould, providing a safer solution than conventional gypsum boards. The product features high technology GRG (Glassfiber Reinforced Gypsum) enamel with fiberglass instead of paper, unlike regular gypsum boards. The gypsum core provides water-resistant properties whilst the light blue coloured pre-primed surface repels water and protects the construction area. It also provides an optimum surface for direct tiling or smooth decoration.
Gyproc(R) Glasroc(R) H OCEAN provides outstandingly as a tile backing and wet area board in environments where there is frequent exposure to moisture, such as shower enclosures, bathrooms, swimming pool halls that have controlled environments with ventilation and other applications where there is likely to be moisture or high humidity present.
3 products in a system for the best performance include Gyproc(R) Glasroc(R) H OCEAN board range, a smart, durable and enhanced moisture and mould resistance board with 12.5 mm thickness; Gyproc(R) Fibre Tape HYDRO provides enhanced moisture and mould resistance of self-adhesive glass fibre mesh tape which increases joint strength and crack resistance and provides anti-microbial properties perfect for use in wet or humid environments; meanwhile, Gyproc(R) Gypfilltm Joint Hydro is a water-repellent ready-mix jointing compound which provides a smooth finish for tiling or direct decoration in wet or humid environments.
