Bangkok--22 Nov--AIS AIS is joining with global partners Nokia, Huawei and ZTE Corporation to commence 5G technology testing, the first mobile phone network operator in Thailand to do so, thereby encouraging Thais to prepare for this future technology. AIS is also inviting Thais to experience the testing for the first time in Thailand, thus enabling all businesses and industries to perceive the benefits of 5G, the development of which is ongoing. The testing will help inspire them as they prepare their organizations to embrace this future technology. Mr. Weerawat Kiattipongthaworn, Chief Corporate Officer, AIS, reveals that the core mission of the digital life service provider is to develop the best digital infrastructure for the country. In this regard, AIS never ceases to adopt superb technologies for Thais. As the operator with the biggest spectrum of 120 MHz, the company has the crucial task of deploying the spectrum to create the highest value and benefits to industries and the country including in education, research and development, as well as new technologies. For example, AIS has collaborated with its strategic partners to prepare for 5G technology, which is considered a great opportunity to take industry development to the next level. "Last month, AIS and Nokia received permission from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) to import equipment for 5G testing on October 12. Then, on 8 November, AIS sent a request to the NBTC's Sub-committee to conduct the 5G testing. Today, the NBTC has given approval to AIS and Nokia to conduct 5G testing on 26.5-27.5 GHz bands between 22 November and 15 December, 2018. AIS now allows Thais and industries to experience the testing of 5G technology for the first time in Thailand in the "5G the First LIVE in Thailand by AIS", a free event being held at The Emporium. The event will enable people to learn firsthand the benefits of 5G, the technology that will revolutionize industries and businesses at all levels, create new business opportunities and enhance socio-economic potential. AIS will continue to deploy technologies from its global strategic partners," says Weerawat. At the "5G the First Live in Thailand by AIS" event, AIS and Nokia – a global leader in technological innovation – will conduct the testing of 5G for the first time in Thailand through 5 innovative approaches, namely: 1. 5G Super Speed Showcase the performance of the 5G network including total throughput and latency. 2. 5G Ultra Low Latency – Cooperative Cloud Robot Demonstrate the latency of 5G by using 3 robots to find a balancing point that controls a ball position in the middle of a board. Demonstrate communications time among the robots to find the balancing point by comparing 4G and 5G networks. 3. 5G for Industry 4.0 Robots will play a greater role particularly in the industry 4.0. The collaborative work of machines from various production lines requires wireless connection with low latency and high reliability. This will enable the production lines to be faster, flexible and more efficient. The Yumi Dual-Arm Collaborative Robot of ABB demonstrates how connectivity through a 5G network can enhance production efficiency. 4. 5G Virtual Reality – immersive video Demonstrate immersive video via 5G network that enables visitors with VR headsets to view 360 degrees. The clear VR viewing requires very high bandwidth especially in live streaming. 5. 5G FIFA Virtual Reality Test 5G speed through the virtual penalty kick. Mr. Weerawat adds that 5G will help enhance the potential of industries and effectively drive the country in the following three ways: - Upgrading speed of data usage on Enhanced mobile broadband (EMBB) - Expanding the capacity of wireless connectivity between devices and devices based on Massive machine-type communications (mMTC) to support widespread adoption of IoT - Improving network quality to provide fast responsiveness and the greatest reliability based on ultra-reliable and low latency communications. This aims to provide faster responsiveness or lower latency to meet operations related to medical safety and self-driving cars. AIS is constantly developing the network fundamentals for these 3 core items. In terms of speed enhancement, the company has launched the world's first 4.5G network with a maximum speed of 1 Gbps and Massive MIMO 32T 32R. Moreover, AIS has partnered with chip and smartphone producers to launch NEXT G, allowing customers to experience the first high-speed network of 1 Gbps in ASEAN. For IoT solutions, in addition to the development of NB IoT and eMTC networks, AIS is the first operator to provide the commercial IoT service in Thailand. For high responsiveness or low latency, AIS is also the first operator to study and upgrade the AIS Core Network Architecture in all regions to prepare for 5G. The network enables devices to communicate directly with the servers without returning to connect with the central network, which will increase the responsiveness rate due to the lower latency rate. When the network is adopted by industries, it offers the maximum efficiency. "The testing of 5G technology underscores the preparedness of AIS to adopt 5G and use its expertise to support the country's development in the near future," Mr. Weerawat concludes. "5G the First LIVE in Thailand by AIS" runs from 22 November to 15 December 2018 #5GThe1stLiveByAIS
