Bangkok--19 Dec--Absolute PR It can't be denied that when most of the organizations start to pay attention to transforming themselves to be ready for the competition and consumer needs, there are still numbers of those that are still stuck and unable to change from analog to digital smoothly. The top problematic factors are the lack of knowledge, expertise and know-how to transform the organization. If we look around, there are many case studies that show the successes of business from Digital Transformation. More than 400 global projects are with the name of ABeam Consulting, the professional business consultant in Digital Transformation. At this point, Mr. Ichiro Hara, Managing Director of ABeam Consulting (Thailand) Ltd., a subsidiary of ABeam Consulting Ltd. in Japan which is the global consulting company in Japan, believed that those know-how and experiences can help Thai businesses to transform as well. Interesting case studies from 3 big companies are shared as case studies for business in Thailand The first case is a company producing shampoo in Japan wanted to launch a new product. Their strategy was to join hands with a gas distribution company which allowed them to acquire the hot water user data in each region. The company found that in some regions hot water was used predominantly in the morning which reflected that people in those regions washing hair early in the day. Based on this data, the company developed the shampoo that suited for morning hair washing and directly penetrated markets in those regions. The second case study is Komatsu, a high quality construction machinery company. In later years, Komatsu integrated sensors with the machinery to service customers more comprehensively, but that was not enough for the era of Digital Transformation. Komatsu stepped up to another level by creating the platform named LANDLOG. This was because they realized that business did not only need the data from the sensor but also the overview of the buildings' construction. LANDLOG platform then became a perfect solution by incorporating all construction company into the platform and illustrating this information to the building's owner, so that they could review the overview and follow up the project's construction process in one screen. The last case study ABeam Consulting presenting is OHTAKE Ramen machine production Company. Previously, OHTAKE always focused on developing the best ramen machine but when consumer behavior changed, OHTAKE realized they had to transform their perspective on how to do the business too. OHTAKE made a 180-degree change; from aiming to develop the best ramen machine to focusing on the types of ramen consumers want. However, OHTAKE knew that only the company itself would not be able to achieve that mission. Therefore, they joined with the partner, namely, ABeam Consulting who had experience and know-how to find the right solution. This led to the IoT sensor implementation which helped the manufacturer to perform machine maintenance and change parts before they broke down. The success of these three companies above are what Thai business can learn to adapt to their businesses. They can partner to acquire new data, look at the overview and create a platform to meet the customers need. Also, there is a realization that if they lack an expertise, finding a partner who has experience in processing Digital Transformation can help them to overcome the obstacles as well. Moreover, Mr. Hara also reminds Thai organization of three things that they should be aware of in the Digital world. Firstly, business competitors can come from everywhere. As evidenced by the enormous companies like Google, Facebook and Xiaomi that spent less than ten years to achieve business value worth more than one billion USD, while a company in the past might have to spend 20 years to grow and achieve the value size. Secondly, to realize that digital is not a future but a new normal, according to the change in consumer behavior. Especially when Thailand globally ranks as one of the top internet users, if business does not start to change today, then they may not be able to reach the consumer anymore. Lastly, a business needs more partners from different fields since it will create the connection and data flow which will benefit the business at the end. For the organization that do not how to adapt to Digital world, Mr. Hara gives 4 important pieces of thought. The first one is thinking about customers first then transform the organization to meet customer's need. For example, in automotive industry, companies like Toyota, Volkswagen or GM knew fully well that their consumers had demanded a higher level of convenience, and just producing the high-quality cars alone would not be sufficient. They therefore started to invest in other competency, like partnering with Ride Sharing start-ups, or co-create service with network companies. Secondly, to embrace diversity, both internally and externally. For example, GE understood that their staffs might not be proficient enough in digital field and opened opportunity for staffs from other companies like Google, Cisco and Oracle and many more to join the company, including a CEO position. Similar to Komatsu's LANDLOG platform that had many partners like Docomo, SAP and OPTiM. This diversity is the key to innovation and new value creations in business. Thirdly, to establish a new evaluation process, because the old way of evaluation may not work in speedy digital world anymore, for instance, Amazon did not make their decisions based on profit alone, but considering "Free Cash Flow" as their major indicator, Google used OKR (Objective and Key Results) instead of KPI. Lastly, to design suitable ecosystem to connect every parties and pieces with same value to end-customers. Like in Apple case who do not make any production by themselves but creating strict rules and policies to ensure values from their product design, or Panasonic who intended to create bond amongst all stakeholders, even the competitors, in order to deliver highest value to their customers in this rapidly changing world.
