Minister of Digital Economy and Society highlights dramatic surge of business opportunities in Thailand through 5G technology
Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider, is showing its readiness for trial-phase implementation of the 5G technology by launching its Testbed on February 8, in Sri Racha, Chonburi province, the first in the region. A Business Leadership Training seminar, in partnership with the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), gathering some of the country's decision makers, experts and entrepreneurs from the business and industrial sectors, marked today the official start of the 5G Testbed.
During the 3-day seminar, Huawei will highlight the advantages of the 5G ecosystem and explain in depth the 5G Testbed in Sri Racha, that will involve 360 AR/VR; Remote Driving; Multi-HD VDO and Smart Bus. Contributions from international experts are also expected to shed light on 5G-driven innovations and inspirations, industry trends, business use cases and other key technologies that will take this early adoption of 5G to the country to help reshape corporate strategies.
Huawei continues to boost its investment in Thailand through the 5G Testbed in a real-world setting, worth a total of THB 160 Million (USD 5 Million). It is designed to serve as a research and development center for new technologies with experts and researchers offering consultations, and a full range of new innovations that will enable more connectivity and open their doors for future economy development with the proven business models. Industry partners and startups will be able to test and speed up innovations, which will further enable sustainable business growth.
"Huawei is strongly committed to support the "5G Testbed", initiated by the Digital Economy and Society Ministry. The 5G sites are located at Kasetsart University's Sri Racha campus. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has been tasked to provide spectrum ranges for the 5G trial, in cooperation with major mobile operators and internet service providers (ISPs)", said Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Digital Economy and Society. "To build a strong 5G ecosystem, Huawei and Digital Economy and Society Ministry jointly organize this 3-day training to share insightful information and benefits of 5G to propel Thailand's economy and stronger society".

It is expected to become the backbone that will connect billions of devices which will fully utilize IoT, AI, cloud network, and other innovations at their great potentials. This will surely help accelerate the Thai government's desire to enter the digital era and become the region's digital hub," said Mr. James Wu, President of Huawei SEA. "We believe that 5G can bring everybody together, so it is with pride that we participate in this Testbed and present the 5G equipment to our Thai partners."
5G technology will pave the way for new services and applications such as AI-assisted Health, Smart Manufacturing, Smart City, Education, etc. At present, Huawei has secured more than 30 commercial contracts for 5G, placing the company number one in terms of commercial 5G contracts. More than 25,000 base stations have already been shipped to different markets in the world. Continuously studying the needs of Thailand and exploring the right solutions to help the country embrace the era of digital transformation, Huawei pledges to provide technical support for Thai businesses that are going to use the 5G network, working closely with the public and private sectors, as well as educational institutions in order to promote talent development.
