Siam Discovery - (16th May 2000) Jobpilot, Thailand's leading career website, is set to leap into the world of WAP technology, and become the first career website in Thailand to broadcast its career content via Wireless Access Protocol (WAP).
Speaking on the launch, Mr. Lim Zhong Yue, Regional Director of Jobs & Adverts (Asia) Ltd., explained that Jobs & Adverts AG (the German mother company) became the world's first Internet Job Advertising site to offer users access to it's database via WAP technology, on the launch of it's WAP service on February 4th 2000.
In April 2000, Jobs & Adverts (Asia), in cooperation with MWEB (Thailand) commenced its own "Jobpilot on WAP" service, allowing users to access sections of the Thai job database through the service "portal" wap.mweb.co.th." Following the lead of its parent company, Jobpilot become the first career site in Thailand to offer services via WAP.
The concept behind this cooperation is very simple, - in Mweb's suite of WAP services there is a 'Careers' section, when on your WAP phone, clicking on http://wap.jobpilot.co.th, takes you to Jobs & Adverts WAP version. Once in the Jobpilot section, you are able to not only look for a new job, but also find useful information about jobs and careers - additionally you can email more information to your personal email address to read later. Jobpilot is also offering an editorial section via mobile phone. However, when compared to information on PCs, all information on your wireless equipment will be limited by the limitation of the equipment's physical appearance, small screen, low memory, etc.
Mr. Lim explained that 2 different types of the information can be accessed from WAP.jobpilot : Need-to-Know information and Nice-to-Know information. The first type is data necessary for undertaking a job search, such as job categories. The other type is information that will compliment your job search, e.g. My jobpilot, which is the resume database. You can check your information without the need of a computer.
Another advantage of using Jobpilot via WAP, is the ease of notification when the Jobpilot search engine matches a position against your key data. You will receive an alert via your mobile phone informing you of the match and instructing you to check your email. This helps speed up the recruitment process and offers you a greater chance of finding that dream job, said Mr. Lim.
Mr. Thomas Hanson, Vice-President of WAP Technology from MWEB (Thailand) Ltd., the leading information and content provider in Thailand, and developer of WAP technology, stated that MWEB was proud of the fact that they were the first in Thailand to provide a facility for accessing information and content via WAP. He further explained that, Information and content via WAP can be divided into 3 types: Infotainment, M-Interactive and M-Commerce. Jobpilot.co.th powers the Job Search section.
Mr. Lim concluded that aside from continuing its strive to implement the latest technology, Jobpilot's main reasons for offering services via WAP were the system's ease of use and its mobility. He forecast that in the near future WAP will be one of the most important vehicles used in accessing the internet. Adding that it will be popular among end users who have little knowledge of using a computer.
The number of registered WAP users has shown an increase, especially in Singapore. This is because of lower cost and popularity among users. In Singapore today, there are 3000 registered WAP users. Most WAP users are professional workers.
Jobs & Adverts AG, founder of jobpilot, the 'unlimited career market on the Internet', currently offers over 100,000 positions in over 50,000 online advertisements (as of March 31, 2000) The company places a great emphasis upon research and development within its field.
