Mr. Prasong Prapaitrakul, Director-General of Rice Department (3rd from left) and Mr. Weraphon Charoenpanit, Country Commercial Lead, Thailand & Vietnam, Crop Science Division of Bayer (4th from left), signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of generating smart farmers and launched "Rice Safe Use Ambassador Project" to empower safety in rice productivity and provide professional farmers at Amari Don Muang Airport Bangkok Hotel.
Rice Safe Use Ambassador Project, initiated under cooperation with Rice Department and Bayer aims to provide smart farmers with appropriate knowledge in safety rice process. The smart farmers will play an important role in passing on the knowledge to their commununity, which will help maximizing yield safely and supporting sustainable agriculture in Thailand.
"Nowadays, rice farming process confronts the challenge in high production cost and excess factor of production, especially misuse of crop protection which endangers humans or the environment. Therefore, it is important to encourage knowledge sharing and awareness of safety rice. This is the reason why Rice Department decided to cooperation with Bayer to launch the Rice Safe Use Ambassador Project." said Mr. Prasong Prapaitrakul
He added, "Rice Department has major mission to enhance knowledge for farmers to increase rice productivity. We organized the Smart Farmer Training to ensure that farmers received the essential information and to generate smart farmers which will be the key success in developing their commununity through passing on the knowledge in G.A.P certification and safety in agriculture. To educate and enhance knowledge for farmers, 200 selected farmers across the country have been trained and closely taken care by experts from project partners. Under the collaboration, Bayer has joined experts in the joint training program entitled "Safe Use Training". Besides, the experts also shared assertive communication tips when farmer passing on the knowledge to their commununity as the Rice Safe Use Ambassador."

Mr. Weraphon Charoenpanit, Country Commercial Lead, Thailand & Vietnam, Crop Science Division of Bayer gave an opinion that "Bayer continues to work closely with growers, government and academic institutions, and many stakeholders, to find high quality, affordable and efficient integrated solutions to improve farming productivity and efficiency for many crops including rice. Bayer joined experts in the joint training program to educate and enhance knowledge and technology for farmers with the main purposes of generating professional farmers. It is necessary that additional academic knowledge especially G.A.P certification, safe life and environmental friendliness should be always fed to farmers. This collaboration between government represented by Rice Department and a leading agrochemical company as Bayer will help form integration of knowledge and expertise in rice farming and this will lead to the effective result in a shorter time"
