The School has its accreditation renewed for another five years, making it the first business school, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, in the country accredited by the global accreditation body.
Chulalongkorn Business School's (CBS) reputation as a leader in business education in Thailand has been strengthened as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) has confirmed the extension of CBS's accreditation for another five years. The extension makes CBS the country's first business school offering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees to be accredited by AACSB. The attainment of the most demanding standard of excellence in business education affirms CBS's place among the world's leading business schools.
"We are proud of achieving global accreditation. Students applying to CBS can be confident that they will be receiving world-class business education. Additionally, it means students are assured that their education will be highly valued by industry," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, Dean of CBS.
"The AACSB accreditation provides a springboard for furthering the regional and international success of CBS. We have set an ambitious goal of being among the top ten business schools in Asia and being at the forefront of business education worldwide", Dean Wilert added.
Dean Wilert said quality control has always been key to the CBS's educational model, a model that ensures students receive the best quality education. CBS decided to adopt and apply the prestigious AACSB standards of excellence to its management and operational processes.
AACSB accreditation is an extensive peer-review process based on internationally accepted practices in business schools. The accreditation process promotes continuous improvement and effective business education services. The process involves careful reviews of work processes and documents, augmented with interviews, field visits, and surveys of students, staff, and board members, all conducted by the AACSB accreditation review team.
During the accreditation process, the artifacts collected by the AACSB review team were measured against AACSB practice standards. The evaluation encompassed strategic management and innovation; interactions among students, faculty and staff; research, learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.
Overall, the AACSB peer-review team found CBS to be an effective business school that is delivering high quality education and services to its students.
CBS was first accredited by AACSB in 2015. The accreditation has been extended for another five years this year. Nevertheless, CBS firmly believes that the best is yet to come.
To attain greater success in the future, a full commitment has been made to upgrade and streamline all operations. Accordingly, CBS is driving toward its vision: A chief business school delivering life-changing experiences with innovative wisdom and a philanthropic spirit.
"We believe that effective learning in the age of digital disruption is more than just conventional learning methods and online learning. Knowledge and experience sharing among students, faculty, and practitioners also matter and can certainly push the boundaries of collaborations and innovation forward", said Dean Wilert.
"In a highly dynamic learning environment, a school can no longer afford to focus only on academic theories. It needs to assume responsibility for fostering the development of morals and values. At CBS, we place great emphasis on both intellectual development and ethics. We have been committed to encouraging intellectual power, cultivating emotional intelligence, and empowering the spirit of giving and social responsibility. As a result, our graduates are academically, emotionally, and morally well-prepared. This, in turn, eventually leads to economic growth for Thailand."
CBS is in a small group of elite business schools in the world that hold accreditations from two global accreditation bodies – the US-based Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and The European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), the quality accreditation program of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).
AACSB and EQUIS accreditations are hallmarks of excellence for business schools. These distinctions have been earned by less than one per cent of business schools worldwide, placing CBS among an elite group.
Besides the accreditations, other attributes affirm the quality of education at CBS and its growing internationalization. For example, CBS has high quality lecturers who have graduated from top-ranked schools and produce research published in top-tier academic journals. CBS students have won recognition at numerous national and international academic competitions. CBS's international programs attract high percentages of international students, and a notable number of CBS graduates go on to study at many of the world's top business schools.
Dean Wilert concluded: "Last but not least, I'd like to thank our faculty, staff and students for their eminent contributions and support. My appreciation also goes to the AACSB peer-review team members who gave us valuable comments and suggestions which will certainly help us capitalize on the many opportunities ahead. As part of the reaccreditation process, we created a number of initiatives we believe will drive further growth and development, not only for CBS, but also for our country."
