Digital Economy and Society Ministry, together with Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., provide AI-assisted solution with 5G technology to Siriraj Hospital, which aims to help output diagnosis result automatically, quickly, and correctly through high-speed network. This world-class technology will strengthen Thai medical staff capabilities to cope with COVID-19 pandemic effectively.
Mr. Buddhipongse
Punnakanta, Digital Economy and Society Minister, stated about the cooperation
that, “According to
current situation of COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand, we still cannot be at ease. The government
and DES ministry attach great importance to enhance the performance of Thai medical
staff by using integrated digital
technologies of 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), big data
and cloud computing. The 5G technology in particularly will revolutionize the healthcare system in
Thailand, thanks to its high-speed connection, high accuracy and smart advantages. It enables
more effective and efficient medical uptakes with remote
monitoring, improved resource allocation as well as data collection. The 5G
application in public health demonstrates how digital infrastructure can have a
significant impact on people's health during the time of major emergency.”
Prof. Dr. Prasit
Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University,
said, “The COVID-19 diagnosis
with CT is one of the methods for COVID-19 evaluation and treatment, which required multiple rechecks and
image reviews for some patients. The AI technology can help doctors analyzing CT
quantification results of the infected cases with high accuracy. It helps doctor analyze CT
quantification results with high accuracy, reducing the time in image analyzing
to as quick as 25 seconds
per case, and can
greatly help reducing the workload of Thai medical personnel in this situation. As a result
of 5G features such as high-speed connection, high reliability and low latency, the healthcare system
has benefited from improved response times, patient monitoring, data collection
and analytics, remote collaboration and resource allocation.”
Mr. Abel Deng,
CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd.,adds, “Telecommunications
operators rapidly set up a specific 5G network dedicated to COVID-19 treatment
hospitals to relief network congestion and guarantee quality of medical care
service. Huawei, as a
leading organization in technology and a good enterprise citizenship in
Thailand, aims to enhance capabilities of Thai medical staff, by providing the AI
solution from HUAWEI
CLOUD and HUAWEI 5G technology, which will help with diagnosis, operation and
cooperation within Siriraj Hospital. This will be the commencing point of using digital technology thoroughly in the Thai public health sector, also the
cloud technology will improve the quality of medical service into the new level.”
The AI-assisted
solution based on HUAWEI CLOUD technology is co-developed by
Huawei and HY
Medical, a China enterprise that is a leading expert in the AI medical
industry, focusing on medical imaging through artificial intelligence, with the
technology of computer vision and deep learning. This
technology leverages the computer vision and medical image analysis
technologies to segment the multiple pulmonary ground glass opacities (GGOs) and
lung consolidation and make quantitative evaluations through CTs of patients'
lungs. It can
provide result of image analyzing as quick as 25 seconds per case, can help doctors
more accurately distinguish between early, advanced, and severe stages of COVID-19. In addition,
more than 20 hospitals in China has adopted this technology to handle the COVID-19 and after
continues training and optimization, the solution has become more efficient
with classification of accuracy rate at 96% and with DICE
score higher than 85.
The 5G network will enhance effectiveness of medical
service in hospital by guarantee quality of high-speed
connection, high reliability and low latency. The
healthcare system will benefit from improved response times with more 3-4 times
uploaded efficiency compared to WiFi, patient monitoring, data
collection and analytics, remote collaboration and resource allocation. It
also sets an example for digitalized, data driven and Cloud-based
innovative major public emergency response.
Recently, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co.,
Ltd., provided
the AI solution for COVID-19 diagnosis to Ramathibodi
Hospital. Recently,
Huawei also delivered Huawei Telemedicine Video Conference Solution to Ministry
of Public Health of Thailand, as part of its plans to help coping with COVID-19
situation.
The solution is real-time and full-functional
teleconference system that can facilitate Thai medical staff to work smoother,
doctors can monitor and diagnose patients from everywhere through their own
smart devices.
More importantly, this reduces risk of infection for Thai medical team.
