To date, more than 300,000 of the five million room subsidized rooms nights for the TTogether tourism stimulus package have sold out. Agoda has been using its tech expertise to help make searching for hotels involved in the initiative countrywide, an easy and hassle-free experience for eligible travelers. Through its recently launched GoLocal campaign and the support of the Government’s TTogether stimulus package, Agoda wants to encourage Thai travelers to re-explore their homeland and rediscover destinations around Thailand that they have either not visited for a long time or been to before. As well as having great experiences, Thai travelers will be contributing to the health of the Thailand tourism industry and supporting Thai hotels and their communities. The current situation provides the perfect opportunity for Thais to discover new areas of the Kingdom to travel to, as well as revisiting popular destinations while they are less busy than usual. Agoda’s booking data from the TTogether program also shows that Thais are using the savings to explore famous destinations that are usually very crowded, including Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi, and off-the-beaten-track destinations, such as Koh Chang and Khao Lak. The TTogether tourism stimulus encourages Thai travelers to plan inter-provincial trips to book and stay between 18 July and 31 October 2020, to help revive domestic tourism and support hoteliers and the tourism industry in the 76 provinces across the country. The government will subsidize 40% of room night rates, up to 3,000 THB per night, for up to five nights per person. Five million room nights are offered as part of this Thai government initiative. Agoda’s booking data from the URL indicates people from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Nakhon Ratchasima are the most keen to travel domestically again, with the most popular stay durations being short trips during the weekend. On average, people booked a stay for one-two nights and with most travelers booking for stays with check-in dates within the next four weeks, and around 23 October, which is Thai public holiday. The most popular price range that attracts Thai travelers is 1,000 - 2,500 baht per room per night (before 40% discount). John Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Agoda, said: “As one of the largest global digital travel platforms in Thailand, we have always been keen to support Thai tourism across the country. We leverage of first-class technology and our strong brand presence to connect accommodation providers throughout the Kingdom with travelers wherever in Thailand, or the world, they are. This technology advantage has been instrumental in helping us to support the government fulfill its stimulus program, encouraging Thai travelers to explore the country beyond well-known destinations and visit more diverse parts of Thailand. This fabulous TTogether initiative will go a long way to help impacted hoteliers, including those Thai owned SMEs, which make up over 80% of the accommodations in the Kingdom, to enjoy the fruitful benefits of this program. We applauded the government and travel sector coming together to make this happen. Great initiatives like this set an example for other regions experiencing the same challenges as it immediately tackles the core issue of occupancy and OTAs can help to extend the reach and improve the efficiency of the program.” Agoda will be taking zero commission on bookings made via Agoda for the Rao Tiew Duay Gan or TTogether initiative.
