It aims to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies and innovation in businesses across industries in alignment with the national strategic development and economic growth direction. The first Smarter City in Action 2020 activity is also initiated under the concept “Digital People Get Together To Jointly Develop Smart Cities” with an objective to raise awareness and promote understanding about the advantage of digital technology for business operators as digital technology is the core component for smart city development in light of the disruptive industry. Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of depa, said that Mr.Buddhipongse Punnakanta, Digital Economy and Society Minister assigned the depa to provide promotions and support to the industrial development and digital innovation as well as encouraging businesses across segments to embrace digital transformation through the use of digital technology and innovation in order to create the highest benefits for business developments. With the digitalization, all segments and stakeholders in society will be able to grow and get through the digital transformation with sustainability. It will result in creating value added to the country’s digital economy. “Therefore, the depa collaborated with Udon Thani, network of allies and partners as well as over 30 digital startups to present a range of digital technologies and innovation and digital solutions such as Point of Sale (POS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Internet of Things (IoT) to local business operators, entrepreneurs, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism and agricultural sectors. The depa is also committed to promote and support the adoption of digital technologies and innovation to substantially drive smart city development. The first “Smarter City in Action 2020” activity is expected to maximize the potential of around 100 local business operators, community Enterprises and entrepreneurs, helping to enhance investments and generate no less than 11.6 million baht in economic value.” the President/CEO of depa said. Nirat Pongsithithaworn Udon Thani Governor said Udon Thani has the policy to elevate the standard of local business operators by embracing and adapting digital technologies and innovation in preparation for the government’s smart city development. The province also has a development roadmap to raise the bar of business competency as well as an action plan to provide knowledge and to enhance the competitiveness and efficiency of business management in order for the local SMEs to operate and move their businesses forward on the back of the varying consumer demographics and changing consumer behavior in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Digital technology plays a vital role in optimizing the competitiveness of SMEs. Hospitality and service businesses, small business operators, street vendors and merchants at fresh markets, farmers and communities stand ready to cooperate to move Udon Thani forward to the digital economy in accordance with the new normal in a constructive and sustainable way. Moreover, activities held at the first Smarter City in Action 2020 comprised business development advisory services, sharing experience with experts and renown business operators with accomplishments in running the business under the new normal.
