K.Fish approved flatfish is produced based on the world's best aquaculture technology. Off the shores of Jeju, a dedicated area has been selected as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, with natural conditions for flatfish farming. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that it was the first in the world to discover an "ACE inhibitor," a functional substance (peptide) in flatfish muscle protein. This scientifically proves that flatfish is a food that prevents high blood pressure.
In addition, the smart fish farming technology development IoT (Internet of Things) technology is used to monitor the water quality environment and control the growing environment. This ICT-based smart flatfish farming technology is an intelligent farming system that enables remote management of the farm through mobile devices.
The Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries is making efforts by investing government contributions for 7 years from 2019 to 2025 to nurture the Korean fishery industry as a future growth engine for the Smart Fisheries Research Center construction project. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will expand domestic consumption, increase exports and supply quality and competitive farmed flatfish through continuous investment in technology development.
