The major seaweed or laver producers are Korea, China and Japan. For dried laver, Korean laver accounts for half of the global output. Laver is an algae product that requires a balanced approach. It is produced only when the three conditions of algae, water temperature and salt are well met. Adequate amount of sunlight is also very important. Korean laver is black in colour and glossy and has a crispy texture. K.Fish Dried Sea laver is a product that is grown in a clean farming environment with audited processes and regulations. Korean laver is recognised as an Asian standard by CODEX for the best quality and technology in the global market. In Korea, rice is the staple food and laver is consumed as a side dish. In regions abroad, laver is more commonly a snack. Thailand is Korea's major laver exporter. Many major producers of laver snacks in Thailand acquire laver from Korea. The Korean laver snack, Mr. JalsengGim laver has recently entered the Thai market. Currently, it is sold in premium retail stores in three flavours: original, cheese and cranberry. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in Korea is putting a plan in place to spur the development of the seaweed industry. The initiative to foster Korea's seaweed industry as an export-driven food industry worth US 1 Billion by year 2024 will be chiefly executed by K.Fish operations globally.
