"Friends of Dome Club" searches for Recipient of "Soul of Thammasat" Award 2021

The Friends of Dome Club invites specialists from various professions to search for a distinguished Thammasat University alumnus who has demonstrated the dedication to volunteering and is thus qualified to be a role model to receive the first "Soul of Thammasat Award" to be conferred on Thammasat Samakki Day, November 5, 2021.

Dr. Santiparb Tejavanija, Chairman of the Friends of Dome Club, says that in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Thammasat Samakki Day on November 5, 2021, the Friends of Dome Club has initiated the "Soul of Thammasat Award" to honor an outstanding alumnus with  distinguished personalities in four areas - 1) having fullest respect to the constitutional monarchy; 2) promoting safeguard against dictatorship; 3) being committed to social fairness; and 4) making benevolent contributions to society. The winner will be awarded a 100,000 Baht cash prize and a trophy in recognition of his or her outstanding personalities and as a role model for the younger generations, including Thammasat alumni and current students.

To ensure transparent and fair selection process, the Club has appointed a Nomination Committee consisting of nine members who are from academia and civic groups, namely Prof. Dr. Somkit Lertpaithoon (Former Rector of Thammasat University) who serves as the Chairman of the Committee, Asst. Prof. Dr. Jitti Mongkolchaiaranya (Former Dean of Puey Ungphakorn School of Development Studies), Dr. Apichart Damdee (a well-known human resource development coach), Mr. Surapong Kongchantuk (Former Chairman of the Lawyers Council of Thailand's Human Rights Subcommittee on Ethnic Minorities), Asst. Prof. Dr. Nitinant Wisaweisuan (Dean of Puey Ungphakorn School of Development Studies), Asst. Prof. Dr. Tavida Kamolvej (Dean of Faculty of Political Science), Mr. Chavarong Limpattamapanee (Chairman of the National Press Council of Thailand), Mrs. Narissara Ruamsiriwattanakul (President of The Sanya Dharmasakti's Distinguished Law Student Awardees Society) and Mr. Boonsom Akkarathammakul (Former Assistant to the Rector for Alumni, Thammasat University), who serves as the Committee's Secretary.

The Friends of Dome Club is made up of Thammasat University alumni from all faculties and classes who join forces for social contribution activities that benefit both the university and the general public. The Club has supported Thammasat University on various occasions, such as fund raising for the construction of Pridi Banomyong monument at Rangsit Campus and for the "Thammasat Samakki November 5" sculpture behind Dome Building at Tha Prachan Campus, and in organizing Thammasat Samakki Commemorative Day on November 5 every year. Thammasat Samakki Day has been named by Thammasat University Council in remembrance of the day when over 3,000 Thammasat University students reclaimed the university's area from the military after it was seized and held by the army for over five months following the "Manhattan Rebellion" in 1948.
