OR joins forces with Thailand Post on the test of Thai Honda's EV bikes for parcel delivery Ready to consolidate a cooperation to achieve future adoption of electric vehicles

Ms. Jiraphon Kawswat, President & Chief Executive Officer, PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR), together with Dr. Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, Chief Executive Officer, Thailand Post Co., Ltd., jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a test project for electric vehicles to be used in goods and parcel delivery between OR and Thailand Post, piloting the adoption of EV bikes for parcel shipping, with Mr. Nattachai Srisovanna, Chief Business Planning Officer, Business Planning Operation, Thai Honda Co., Ltd., attending the event. In the project, with Lak Si and Chatuchak post offices in Bangkok being the two pilot branches, Thailand Post will use 2 EV bike models manufactured by Thai Honda, including PCX Electric and Benly e, in delivering goods and parcels. Apart from that, OR will also install a battery swapping station at each pilot post office to facilitate EV bike charging and instant battery changing. OR and Thailand Post will jointly collect and analyze data on the EV bike usage and battery charging at the battery swapping stations, as well as identifying opportunities to further enhance their cooperation in the future.

Ms. Jiraphon Kawswat, President & Chief Executive Officer, PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR), disclosed that one of OR's missions is to attain Seamless Mobility with an aim to respond to the preferences of consumers and businesses, no matter which type of fuel is being needed, to ensure a smooth transformation of energy usage. OR has strived to propel wide adoption of electricity for travel and transportation in the country while also developing a complete EV business to become a leader in the EV Ecosystem. To practically offer a full coverage of EV business scaling, electric motorcycles are thus another goal to achieve as OR develops its business to accomplish being a complete EV platform provider. For some reasons among others, motorcycles are a vehicle that is easily accessible by consumers, resulting in a large number of users; and they can also be simply switched to electric power. Therefore, if OR can manage to promptly shape up a platform for the electric vehicle business, which combines the services of charging stations, chargers, electric cars, motorcycles, spares battery cabinets, service application as well as EV repair and maintenance, it will certainly encourage more consumers to adopt either electric cars or motorcycles and drive the use of EV throughout Thailand while OR itself also serving a versatile platform for both service providers and users.

The collaboration with the leaders of postal services and the automotive industry, Thailand Post and Thai Honda, respectively, can be regarded as an upgrade of parcel delivery, as it is energy-saving and environmentally friendly. Moreover, the effort resonates with a goal of OR that aims at creating a healthy environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the entire business operation and increasing the proportion of clean energy usage through the promotion of electric vehicles to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Dr. Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, Chief Executive Officer, Thailand Post Co., Ltd., Thailand Post is aware of its responsibility for the health of the public. As a postal service provider that employs a large number of motor vehicles to provide the services throughout the country, it is determined to shift to clean energy, cutting the use of fossil fuel to reduce carbon footprints, both at the city and community level.

"Thailand Post is the national postal agency that operates in tandem with environmental sustainability, including the wise use of resources. It is also committed to integrating transportation technologies for the benefit of all Thai people with a target to reduce environmental impacts in a sustainable way based on the Green Logistics Policy that prioritizes transportation from the place of departure to the destination, especially by working with partners from both public and private sectors to study approaches that can lead the way to the adoption of electric vehicles in the postal services in various areas. This collaboration with OR is hence another important step in enhancing the efficiency of parcel shipping using clean energy.

In 2022, Thailand Post has planned to employ 250 electric vehicles for the postal services, which is expected to save resources by over 30 percent. The initiative will significantly lead to an eco-friendly EV ecosystem in Thailand and serves as a model for future green logistics." Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, Ph.D, concluded.

Mr. Nattachai Srisovanna, Chief Business Planning Officer, Business Planning Operation, Thai Honda Co., Ltd., said, "This is another important step for Thai Honda that we have joined forces with both the public and private sectors: OR and Thailand Post, to further develop parcel delivery with electric vehicles. We have delivered two electric motorcycle models, which are PCX electric and BENLY e: with a total of 20 vehicles. We have also installed battery-swapping stations at Laksi and Chatuchak post offices. We aim to promote and upgrade transportation that is more energy-efficient and environmental-friendly. As the leader of the Thai motorcycle industry, Thai Honda is committed to reducing carbon emissions in the environment to create a sustainable society. Those are an inspiration for the development of electric motorcycles and the EV ecosystem in Thailand. We are ready to promote and continue the development towards the future of new forms of transportation in Thai society."
