GSSD Expo 2022 Networking Night: The Night full of exciting highlights and pleasant surprises to remember

After two days of productive meetings and deliberations starting on 12 September 2022, the Global South-South Development Expo 2022 (GSSD Expo 2022) has come to close on 14 September 2022, with the GSSD Expo 2022 Networking Night hosted by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Vithes Samosorn. Below are some of the highlights.

His Excellency Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand presided over the event. The Permanent Secretary welcomed all delegates to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and appreciated their contributions to the GSSD Expo 2022 during 12-14 September 2022. For those participating in the Field Visit to the Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture in Pathum Thani Province on 13 September, he trusted that it was informative and useful. Although the Networking Night marked the end of GSSD Expo 2022, he stressed that it was not the end of collaboration among the Expo's participating countries. The Permanent Secretary stated that the GSSD Expo 2022 has provided a renewed impetus to South-South and Triangular Cooperation and therefore, development partners should keep the momentum going and collectively building back smarter, greener, and stronger both socially and economically.

One of the exciting highlights was the announcement of top three winners of the Entrepreneurship Competition's final round, held in the afternoon of 14 September 2022. The final 8 contestants, selected from the pool of over 200 applicants from 45 developing countries, presented their project initiatives before the 8 jury members from Thailand and other 5 UN agencies. Through this Competition, young entrepreneurs between 18-35 years of age had the opportunity to gather, share knowledge and ideas, and collaborate to develop and scale up innovative solutions to address global challenges and to contribute to SDGs through South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

The Permanent Secretary, together with, representatives from the GSSD Expo 2022 cohosts: UNOSSC and ESCAP, presented awards to the top three winners as follows:

  • The Winner: Ms.Kavindya Thennakoon, a graduate student as the Stanford School of Education, received $3,000, together with the winner's plague, from Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA);
  • The 1st Runner-up: Mr.Gopal Kumar Mohoto, an engineer from Bangladesh, received $2,000, together with the 1st runner-up's plague, from TICA;
  • The 2nd Runner-up: Mr.Rogers Githinji, a specialist in financial international law from Uganda, received $1,000, together with the 2nd runner-up's plague.
  • The three awardees proudly attended the award ceremony and were pleasantly surprised with the prize money awarded by TICA.

    The delegates also enjoyed Thai cultural performances from the Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Cultrue, special music treat from Koh, "Mr. Saxman", and a fine selection of Thai cuisine from all four regions of Thailand.
