
On September 1, 2022 King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and The Asahi Glass Foundation - AF held the Research Grant Award Ceremony 2022. In the event, Mr. Takuya Shimamura, Director of the Asahi Glass Foundation and CEO and President of Asahi Glass Company Limited (AGC) Inc. offered a congratulatory message while KMUTT President Associate Professor Dr. Suvit Saetia delivered a welcome address at the presentation of funding for KMUTT's researchers. The ceremony took place in a hybrid format at LIB 108 room, KMUTT Library as well as online via ZOOM Meeting.
The objective of this event is to support the development of science and technology for industrial, economic and social advancement. This year, which marks the eleventh year that The Asahi Glass Foundation has provided research funding to the university, KMUTT has received 5 million yen for research grants from the Foundation and has matched that with another 5 million yen, a total of 10 million yen or approximately 3,000,000 baht. The funding supports 8 projects in 6 areas of which the 5 previous areas are Materials Sciences, Life Sciences, Environment, Information Sciences, and Energy, and new area in this year of Social Sciences. The details are as follows:
Two projects for the Materials Sciences
- "Design of 3d-printed scaffolds to enhance mechanical and biological responses of metal implants"
- "An Accurate Description of Pre-Bias Space-Charge-Limited Current Measurements in Perovskite Thin Films for Accurate Charge Transport Properties: A New Machine Learning-Based Experimental-Computational Study"
Two projects for Life Sciences
- "Development of biocompatible magnetic cellulose from pineapple peel for enzyme immobilization: Sustainability research in enzyme recycling and stability"
- "The globally Endangered Giant Nuthatch (Sitta magna): breeding ecology, nest-site characteristics and the role of mature pine plantation, one of the key factors for its conservation"
Two projects for Environment
- "Relationship between quorum sensing and direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) of microorganisms on conductive material for enhancing methane production"
- "Population dynamics and survival of the threatened fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) in human dominated landscape"
Two projects for Social Sciences
- "Are We Ready for Climate Change? The Maturity Level of Climate Change Risk Mitigation and Adaptation in Thai Industry"
- "The development of online training program for enhancing online communication and intercultural communication skills for undergraduate students in Thailand after the new normal"
For the year 2022, no projects were selected in the areas of Information Sciences and Energy.
