DHL Danzas Air & Ocean, the global air and ocean freight provider and logistics arm of DHL, has appointed Thomas Tieber as Vice-President, South Asia and Country Manager, Thailand.
In his new role for South Asia, Mr Tieber will oversee DHL Danzas Air & Ocean’s joint venture in India — DHL Danzas Lemuir - which comprises over 360 staff and 15 locations in major cities. Mr Tieber will also be responsible for the company’s various agent operations in Bangladesh, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Mr Tieber succeeded the Country Manager Thailand position from Wolfgang Richt who will now move to Shanghai to take on a new position focusing on developing the important ocean freight trade lane business between China and the Americas. Building on the firm business foundation laid by Mr Richt, Mr Tieber will take charge of seven locations with close to 200 staff, a role which he previously held in the early 1990s.
“I am delighted to be assuming my new capacities and equally excited about the new challenges they bring,” said Mr Tieber. “My key focus would be to tap growth opportunities in the developing South Asia region and to further grow the company’s presence in Thailand.”
Mr Tieber will report to Peter Landsiedel, Chief Executive Officer — Asia Pacific, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean.
“Thomas’ extensive experience in Asia-Pacific and his strengths in marketing and sales will be invaluable assets to drive our South Asia and Thailand operations to pole positions,” said Mr Landsiedel.
Mr Tieber was Vice President of Marketing & Sales Asia-Pacific for DHL Danzas Air & Ocean, where he was instrumental in initiating key sales initiatives and programme for the past five years, since the acquisition of AEI into Danzas followed by consolidation with DHL. He was Integration Manager Asia-Pacific during the Danzas-AEI integration where he has demonstrated stellar performance in successfully merging two entities across the region.
A highly regarded professional with more than 17 years experience in the logistics industry, Mr Tieber first joined the former Danzas in Munich in 1989 as Ocean Freight Inbound Manager, followed by assignments in Hamburg and Bangkok, where he established the Thailand entity in 1993. He was soon promoted to Regional Director for Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
Prior to joining the former Danzas, Mr Tieber held several managerial positions in advertising and forwarding companies in Frankfurt, Germany.
