Siemens Ltd., Transportation Systems group, successfully signed a 2.79 billion baht contract with Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co., Ltd. (BTSC) to provide maintenance services for BTS skytrain for another ten years, effective from January 1, 2005 until December 31, 2014.
The extension of the contract reaffirmed Siemens’ success during the past five years in performing a clean and very high-level standard record for running the maintenance services since the first day of the BTS operation in 1999.
Under the contract, Siemens is responsible for the entire BTS skytrain maintenance services which include following works:
- The Electrical &Mechanical system, covering rolling stock, signalling, and telecommunication system.
- Building Engineering, covering power supply, track work & third rail and workshop equipment.
- Related services, covering all preventive and corrective maintenance activities including the supply of necessary spare parts and consumables for the above mentioned disciplines.
An advisor to the BTSC Board of Directors Dr. Anat Arbhabhirama said “Utmost satisfaction of our passengers is always our number one priority. Together with Siemens as our maintenance service contractor, we are determined to continue serving our passengers with on-time, safe and reliable operation of the train system for the next 10 years.”

Siemens’ maintenance center is located at end of the Sukhumvit line, station N8 Morchit. The Maintenance Center is the interface between operation and maintenance. Staff are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In case of malfunction of the Sky-train System, the installed Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is capable of collecting the right information from the operator BTSC (via central control room) and communicating this information to the concerned section. This CMMS tool is employed to carry out the preventive and the corrective maintenance.
Siemens Transportation Systems was consortium leader for the BTS Sky-train turnkey project. It was responsible for the design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of all electrical and mechanical (E&M) equipment and maintenance services.
