For Those who Equate Time with Perfection,
Arnold & Son Presents the Longitude ll Watch Collection
The passion for adventure and exploration live in the heart of those who appreciate the Longitude Watch
Now in Bangkok, the exquisite watches in the Arnold & Son Longitude ll Collection have adventurers, explorers and avid watch collectors all excited. These timepieces were created for those who enjoy their spirit of independence because they know that nothing can hinder them from knowing their exact position. More than a highly-accurate watch, the Longitude ll is a mechanical device that allow you to calculate the longitude of your position, to make equation of time corrections and to determine the position of mean or true geographical north. Even today’s GPRS and other positioning systems can become inoperable because of energy, positioning or data blockage, but the Longitude ll watch and measuring instrument will continue to show your position just like a natural satellite.
100% PERFECTION
England has always produced extraordinary explorers, be it on land or at sea. However, the expeditions became more difficult and dangerous, making it necessary to create a device that could determine longitude, and not just latitude, and a high level of mean daily precision, so that the exact position of the navigators could be calculated at all times.
Arnold & Son was among the few watchmakers in the xx century that brilliantly succeeded in understanding the complexity of the problem and developing a manufacturing a timepiece used by the Royal Navy, the East India Company and famous explorers such as Captain Cook.
Today the Longitude ll watch collection from Arnold & son continues in the tradition of exploration and offers much more than just another complicated luxury watch..
Longitude ll: the true expedition watch
Its crown, located at 2 o’clock on the dial, is used to rotate a scale for calculating longitude. Using the crown at the 2 o’ clock position and turning the band on the longitude ring, the wearer can easily read their reference position in relation to their time zone. The solar midday, or the sun’s zenith, can also be determined. The intricate timepiece also has another hidden function that gives a more precise measurement — the equation of time, which determines the variation between real solar time and mean solar time. The watch has a concealed back chamber that can be opened by pressing a push-piece. This comprises an adjustable equation of time scale which can determine the difference between mean and solar time. This reading is used to calculate longitude.
The movement of the Arnold & Son Longitude includes a solar compass function, making it possible to determine simultaneously solar midday and the geographical north from your position.
