Bangkok--Aug 22--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and Mahasarakam University signed an MOU under the University Networking Project to launch a SET Corner as a financial and investment information center for academic institutions and local residents in the Northeast.
Executive Vice President of the SET Mr. Punsak Vejanurug said after the MOU signing ceremony that the SET continues to cooperate with leading universities in metropolitan and provincial areas, and that Mahasarakam University is the 10th university the SET has signed an MOU with.
The SET has set up SET Corners, which are like branches of the SET’s library at 2 leading Northeastern institutions, Mahasarakam University and Khon Kaen University. The Corners provide financial and investment information and the SET Smart (“SET Market Analysis and Reporting Tool”) system, providing access to an extensive database on listed companies and market information.
“The SET is working to expand opportunities for students and the general public throughout the country to gain better access to saving and investment information through its University Networking Project. The universities, like Mahasarakam, are being effectively utilized as community learning centers in their provinces. The SET and Mahasarakam University will also work together to encourage financial research. The SET will provide information, funding and management and financial analysis courses for the university’s researchers as well as training courses for students.”, Mr. Pansak said.
The President of Mahasarakam University and Fellow of the Royal Institute, Professor Adul Viriyavejakul, Ph.D., said “It’s the University’s pleasure to join the SET in this activity, which educates people about investment and promotes the growth of an investment culture. Our joint activities will act as an important engine for building a sound financial education for Thais.”
Since February, Mahasarakam University and the SET have been promoting financial and investment education via e-learning. Many interesting programs, such as “Making Sense of Money”, “Investing in Stocks”, “Investing in Bonds”, “Investing in Mutual Funds” and “Derivatives Fundamentals” have been included. The e-learning system can be accessed through the campus’s Education Service office.
The SET has launched 28 SET Corners in academic institutions, both in the Bangkok metropolitan area and throughout the provinces, since 2004.
