Cotto Studio design institute, positioned as a world-class trendsetter under the umbrella of Thai Ceramic Co., Ltd., launched The Decoration Trends 2006 and its new collections of distinctive tiles which are unique in both shape and texture.
Mr. Thaywin Wannabumroong, Cotto Studio’s Design Director, introduced 4 new Decoration Trends 2006: Serenity, Outlandish, ExtraVacanza and Urban Future, which are expected to replace the Oriental style which is on decline.
The inspiration behind the Serenity trend is most people’s desire to escape the hectic work life every now and then either by taking vacations in tranquil places, staying quietly at home, or even retreating into the world of imagination and poetry. One of the remarkable designs in this style is “Fiorina” which is made of scented glass mosaic that has real flowers inside. These designs can help sooth the senses as the aroma therapy.
The inspiration behind Outlandish trend is the quest to discover new cultures in lands one has never visited. The designs in this trend blend patterns and textures of raw nature with those of wild animals one sees in safaris. The distinctive Wildlife and Wood Cut collections represent living amidst true raw and untouched nature.
The ExtraVacanza trend is extravagant and glitzy just as the name suggests. It will remind you of those luxurious vacations you took, those dresses you wore while walking on a Mediterranean beach or strolling in a splendid Arabian palace. The splendid Alexandria collection in the ExtraVacanza style epitomizes the sense of luxury and indulgence with circular tiles of 1.5m diameter that have been manufactured through the water-jet process.
The Urban Future trend brings together and balances organic nature and the high-tech world. The designs in this style incorporate various natural phenomena including wind, animal camouflage and the reflection of ripples. These elements have been fashioned into various design collections including Aura Flow and Water Drop.
In the Enchanted Serenity Trend Launch event, the unique tile designs in these 4 trends were created by several well-known people in various fields. Ploy Chariyaves, a columnist and famous translator, designed one collection in the Serenity trend.
“Every year I try to find time to travel. I think besides broadening one’s perspective, traveling also calms you down spiritually and puts your body more at ease. Italy is one of my favourite retreats. The scenery at Tuscany really refreshes me. My design inspirations were those tall pine trees, hay stacks in the fields and flowers whose colours vary according to the seasons. I used graphic design based on these natural images.” Ploy said.
Grace Mahadamrongkul contributed one collection in the Outlandish trend. The beautiful entrepreneur and T.V. presenter said: “I had an opportunity to travel to South Africa and went on a safari. It was amazing to see some giraffes nibbling on leaves at tree tops. Their bodies and patterns were so stunning. It’s a shame that they are one of the endangered species. I think giraffes are really special and they really did impress me. Those were my inspirations.”
Fashion photographer Nat Prakobsantisuk created one design in the ExtraVacanza trend. His inspiration was ancient Egyptian art, like images of lotus, scarab beetles and the spherical shape of the sun. These images reflect life in summer time on the banks of River Nile and they are also seen in many royal palaces.
The owner of @Home trendy furniture studio, Sarun Limsawaddiwong, contributed one design in the Urban Future trend. His inspiration was a contemporary titled “Artichoke”. “Form and shape are essential parts of design work these days. My inspiration was the famous lamp “Artichoke”. With that as the basis, I added new colors to give it a new unique feel, nevertheless still be recognized as its original form.”
During the launch event, the Cotto Studio team also presents “conceptual fashion” based on the 4 trends.
“Cotto Studio formulated the trend by studying the way of life of various ethnic groups. Lifestyle, social outlook, and even the state of the economy have an impact on overall consumer behavior. Our designs and concept have moved to the forefront along with those of international design firms as we can see in at the international Design and Trade Fairs such as Maison & Object of France and Cersaie of Italy. Our Trends can also be adapted to use in the world of fashion,” Thaywin added.
