Duration of Exhibition: September 2 — October 15, 2005
Workshop “Pilates Introduction Class”: Tadu Gallery on Saturday, September 3, 2005.
The solo exhibition “CRAZY SOAP” by Liliane Zumkemi, a Bangkok based Swiss born artist, is reflecting soap operas in a funny and humorous way.
At the entrance the audience is invited to wash their hands with a brain a like soap object (15 x 12 x 9 cm) with strong chocolate smell. This work refers to her video work “Brain Washing”, exhibited at Tadu Gallery last year.
The photo series “Bangkok Smell Project” (202 digital prints on black and white paper, each 21 x 30 cm) is about the absence and presence of favorite smells and its memories in a big city like Bangkok. She asked 202 Bangkokians from different social backgrounds about their favorite smell and wrote it on a plaster cast on their nose. Then she took a picture of them in their surroundings.
In the object series “Soap Burden - Same Same but Different” Liliane Zumkemi produced 1000+ back bag a like soap patches (each 2 x 3 x 1 cm) in a soap factory. They all look the same but smell differently and are available in the smell “attraction and corruption”.
In the painting series “Talking Spine”, 23 mixed media works (each 100 x 200 cm) are depicting alien alignments of a human spine. The vertebras are formed by texts from various sources, such as definitions of human rights in different languages. She used colorful sand for the inside of the vertebras, the backgrounds and the comments made by a certificated chiropractic who she had visited with her paintings for professional advice.
The audience is invited to join a Pilates workshop instructed by Or-yah Avni, a certified Pilates teacher and Training director from the first Pilates studio in Bangkok (www.pilatesbangkok.com) at Tadu gallery on Saturday, September 3. This workshop will refer to Zumkemi’s “Talking Spine” and will introduce a successful fitness and rehabilitation method, combining yoga, breathing techniques, martial art and more.
