On the fourth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, CNN PRESENTS profiles people whose lives have been changed in dramatic and surprising ways in the aftermath of 9/11. CNN’s new documentary, TWISTS OF FATE: STORIES OF 9/11 is reported by Aaron Brown and premieres on September 10 and 11.
TWISTS OF FATE profiles people whose lives have been changed in dramatic and surprising ways in the aftermath of 9/11. These include:
Flight attendant Elise O’Kane, who escaped death because she signed up for a wrong flight. Instead, Robert Fangman died on United Airlines flight 175 that crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center. CNN Presents follows O’Kane as she completes the flight route Fangman never finished and meets his family for the first time;
Lisa Dolan, who lost her husband, U.S. Navy Capt. Bob Dolan, when a plane struck the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Dolan and her two children found an unexpected source of comfort that came into their lives just days after the attack — therapy dogs. Dolan, having personally experienced how much the dogs helped her and her family, is having her golden retriever puppy trained to become a therapy dog;
And Mary Chapin Carpenter, who heard ironworker Jim Horch’s account of clearing bodies from the World Trade Center site. Horch said he felt compelled to go to Grand Central Station at the end of a shift in hopes the ghosts of victims would follow him there and take the trains home. Inspired by Horch’s story, Carpenter wrote “Grand Central Station.”
