Bangkok--Sep 12--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chulalongkorn University (CU) to work together to renovate CU’s stadium by installing synthetic turf for the first time in Thailand. The SET and CU also intend to build a sport library on CU’s campus. These two projects are expected to benefit Thailand’s youth and the general public as a whole.
CU President Professor Khunying Suchada Kiranandana, Ph.D., announced after the MOU signing ceremony that this cooperation is taking place because the SET and CU are willing to create activities which are good for Thailand and realize the importance of supporting sport development for Thailand’s youth.
CU’s President also added that “The stadium’s renovation will not only be good for Chulalongkorn’s students and staff but also for youth and the public in general”.
SET President Mr. Kittiratt Na-Ranong said that these projects will be funded by the SET’s 30th Anniversary Charity Fund. These joint ventures aim at developing Chulalongkorn’s stadium to be a modern sport center.
Director of CU’s Sport Center Jutha Tingsapat, Ph.D., said that the stadium will cover its soccer field with synthetic turf, thus becoming the first Thai stadium capable of passing the FIFA’s standards. This stadium will be opened longer and be better equipped with a sport library, food court and fitness center included.
“The construction should take around 3 months. The fitness center has already been completed. We’re expecting to open the new stadium by the end of this year. The stadium’s board of directors will take care of its policies, revenues and operations to make sure that everything continues to go in the same direction that CU and the SET want it to go,” Dr. Jutha said.
The stadium is currently under the supervision of the Chulalongkorn Sport Center as a private organization, with the freedom to make management policies. The board is comprised of representatives from CU and the SET. The Chairman of the Sport Center’s board of directors is Vice President Associate Professor Joompol Rodcumdee. The remaining 6 board members include the head of the school of sport science; 2 academics from Chulalongkorn University, Associate Professor Pongsak Yuktanund, Ph.D. and Associate Professor Sirima Bunnag, and 2 representatives from the SET’s 30th Anniversary Charity Fund, Corporate Operation Division Head Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai, and the head of the SET’s Market for Alternative Investment, Mr. Vichate Tantiwanich. The director of CU’s Sport Center, Dr. Jutha Tingsapat, will also be a board member and the board’s secretary.
