Undoubtedly, the continuous popularity of ‘Pleng Luk Tung’ or Thai Country Song in Thailand has derived from its captivating tune, straightforward meaning, and different music arrangement style. The ‘Pleng Luk Tung,’ considered as one of Thailand’s uniqueness, has also been the mirror image of Thai rural lifestyle, common attitude, custom and culture.
The ‘Pleng Luk Tung’ Amateur Singing Contest has been organized for the 2 consecutive years with big support from both state and private sectors, Office of Prachuap-khiri-khan Education Service Area and Sahaviriya Steel Industries PLC (or SSI), in attempting to save Thai culture for generations, to offer the countless opportunity to local students to show off their singing ability, and to discover the young signing talents.
The contest was divided into 4 categories: Junior Primary (Prathom 1-3), Senior Primary (Prathom 4-6), Junior Secondary (Matayom 1-3), and Senior Secondary (Matayom 4-6). Each category has 2 types, male and female. The event gained a great success of about 1,000 local students participating in the initial round; however, only 24 junior singers from 20 academic institutions gathered in the final round.
