Bangkok--Sep 15--EXIM
Mr. Sataporn Jinachitra, President of Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand), and Prof. Dr. Surapon Nitikraipot, Rector of Thammasat University, sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on academic cooperation in the sphere of international trade and investment at EXIM Thailand Head Office, EXIM Building, on September 15, 2005. The MOU marks the beginning of partnership between EXIM Thailand and 7 leading academic institutions to collaboratively develop business education curriculum in line with the current world economic situation and, thereby, foster the development of a new generation of Thai professionals specialized in export and international business.
According to EXIM Thailand President, EXIM Thailand, as a government-owned financial institution with a mandate to promote Thailand’s export and investment overseas, recognizes the need to develop a new generation of Thai business personnel who are well-informed and capable of successfully operating transnational business. To that end, the Bank initiated the cooperation with Thailand’s 7 leading academic institutions, namely, Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, Chiang Mai University, Khon Kaen University, University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and National Institute of Development Administration. This flagship collaboration with Thammasat University today, therefore, marks the first and important step toward bridging the gap between the academia and business community by promoting tertiary education’s relevance to the changing world’s economic and social environment.
Mr. Sataporn said under the MOU, EXIM Thailand and Thammasat University would join hands to design international trade and investment curriculum that better responds to current market demand, promote academic research and dissemination of research results, organize training and other activities that enhance practical knowledge on international business management. EXIM Thailand would also encourage university students, teaching faculties, other academic staff and general public to take part in its various undertakings to fuel the sustainable growth of the country’s export and overseas investment sectors. Academic personnel of the university will also have access to information and up-to-date knowledge about the international business practices from EXIM Thailand.
The signing ceremonies between EXIM Thailand and six other academic institutions, namely, Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, Chiang Mai University, Khon Kaen University, University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and National Institute of Development Administration will be scheduled at a later date.
