ข่าวทั่วไป Thursday September 15, 2005 14:41 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--Sep 15--SET
How competitive are Thai companies in today’s globalized economy? According to Fortune magazine, of the top 500 global companies, Thai companies are performing rather less impressively than companies from competing countries in the region, including China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. No matter how competitive the country becomes, if Thai corporations and executives cannot perform to a global standard, Thailand will remain a minor economic power in the global economy.
Recognizing the importance of Thai corporations becoming more competitive globally, and at the same time to celebrate her 40th anniversary, the Thailand Management Association (TMA), in cooperation with the School of Management of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), has initiated a research project on the current and future potential of Thailand’s globalization, with the goal of formulating alternatives to enhance this potential. The project is known as the TMA-AIT Globalization of Thai Corporations and Executives (GLOBEX) project.
TMA-AIT GLOBEX will assess the global competencies of Thai executives and their motivations to become more global. It will determine how many Thai executives are in top positions in multinational firms and international organizations locally and abroad, and will analyze the strategies Thai corporations consider relevant to enhancing their globalization. After information has been collected and the analysis concluded, TMA and AIT will communicate the research findings to Thai and International corporations and executives, including findings on trends and success stories of Thai companies’ efforts to globalize. A series of specific courses on globalization for universities in Thailand will be developed jointly by the two parties in order to provide support to corporations seeking to increase their globalization involvement.
Ultimately, this joint project looks forward to stimulating the development of supportive government policies for enhanced the global competitiveness of Thailand and Thai companies.
