Bangkok--Sep 16--Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre will be the title of a concert recital by eminent young Franco —German harpist, Florence Sitruk, to be presented by the Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre on Saturday, September 24,2005 at 8.00 p.m.at the Siam Society. The intriguing program will take the listeners from the baroque period starting with J.S. Bach’s Partita no. 1, wend through Audrey Sikhra’s Variations on a Russian Folk Song, through to romatic period with pieces by Claude Debussy and Elias Parish Alvars, whose piece, Voyage d’un Harpiste en Orient , is the inspiration behind title of the recital,after which the recital arrives at the modern period with pieces by Albert Roussel, Bernard Andres, Marcel Tournier and Robert H.P. Platz’ “Senko-hana-bi” composed in 2004 and dedicated to Florence herself. Florence Sitruk belongs to a new generation of harpists who successfully presents the harp as a solo instrument.Born in 1974, she started playing the harp a t the age of six, giving her first public conert at age 8 and, at 17, turned to the French Harp School tradition. She was the first harpist to obtain the Diplome de Specialisation at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg, continued with Marielle Nordmann at the Conservatoire Superieur Superieur de Paris and later finished her studies at the Indiana University with Susann McDonald, gaining the Artist Diploma in 1998. Concurrently, she was also a doctoral student in musicology and philosophy at Freiburg University. One of her most important encounters was with the legendary pianist and pedagogue, Gyorgy Sebok, whose teaching during his last twoyears was decisive for her artistic development and language. Florence Sitruk has a constant interest to enlarge the repertoire of her instrument and make transcriptions close to the original.Her diverse repertoire contains all periods from the 17th century to the contemporary music in which she is especially interested. This led to her being invited by composers such as Gyorgy Kurtag and Ferenc Farkas to play their pieces. In February 2002, she gave the world premiere of Ami Maayani’s Concerto Symphonique for harp and orchestra and in June the same year, the Concertino for harp and strings by Ference Farkas, both of which she played with the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra.
