Tesco Lotus received nearly 900 applications for positions in its new Value Store at Mae Sai. The company has now hired 114 staff in preparation for the store’s opening in October. More than 80% of positions were taken by local residents.
Commenting on the intense local interest, Tesco Lotus Chief Executive Officer Mr Jeff Adams said the company is committed to boosting local employment opportunities.
“ Not only do we seek to employ as many local people as we can, we also offer existing staff members the opportunity to transfer back to their home community to be closer to their families when we open a new store. In this case nine of our staff will transfer back to Mae Sai to be Section Managers,“ said Mr Adams.
“Our employment policy reflects our company’s values of treating people how we like to be treated, and I’m delighted we have more than 90 staff members from Mae Sai working in our new store.”
Tesco Lotus Mae Sai Value store will open on October 14, 2005. As part of the opening activities the company will be hosting an OTOP fair of local producers. The fair will be the 19th OTOP fair the company has held at its stores this year. To date OTOP producers have secured more than 137 million baht of sales through Tesco Lotus support of the programme.
Tesco Lotus is Thailand’s leading hypermarket operator committed to serving customers with quality goods at the lowest possible prices. The company now employs 23,300 people nationwide.
