Surgeons and supermodels, Playboy Bunnies and beauty queens are recruited as CNN's Richard Quest sets out to discover the meaning of human beauty in the October edition of QUEST. Taking drastic measures in pursuit of beauty, Richard faces a surgeon’s knife, models on the catwalk and judges a pageant in order to explore every end of the beauty spectrum.
In California, Richard calls in at the infamous Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills to discuss the role of sex and romance in beauty with Hugh Hefner and his Playboy Bunnies. Hefner tells Richard that “Beauty is a really, truly powerful event and the various things that motivate people in the planet …is the attraction between the sexes, and beauty is a part of that…it’s really the key to what the world is all about.”
From the sex symbols of California to the sensuality of Paris, Richard meets up with one of the world’s truly enduring beauties. Veteran French actress Jeanne Moreau, who epitomizes the art of growing old gracefully, teaches Richard the secrets of physical attraction. And in contrast, while he was in California, Richard went to see why comedienne and fashion critic Joan Rivers prefers a different route to a youthful look; she believes a more beautiful person lies beneath - beneath the surgeon's knife, that is.
Richard takes Joan’s comments to heart by making an appointment with a top plastic surgeon that shows Richard what he could look like if he had the time and the QUEST show had the money but he takes a less radical - and much cheaper - option to lessen the laughter lines with Botox.
With surface beauty treatments in hand, Richard learns about beautiful body movement as he goes behind the scenes of the Fashion Weeks in New York and London with Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista who give Richard an insight into the supermodel industry and a catwalk master class.
With the explosion of exotic beauty on the world stage, Richard talks with young Indian actress Mallika Sherawat who has caused outrage among the more conservative quarters of Indian society by proudly dispensing with her clothes and kisses to express her beauty whilst acting.
Leaving no side of his QUEST unturned, Richard snaps up the opportunity to judge beauty himself, as he reviews beauty pageant contestants alongside Miss World. Then finally, with a little extra coaching from top choreographer Sean G. Huston, Richard is ready to take his first steps towards a more beautiful self. Poise, presence, balance, beauty. Find out if Richard exhibits any of these qualities as he becomes a catwalk clothes horse at a celebrity fashion show.
Previous editions of QUEST have seen Richard performing stand-up comedy on Broadway, helping malnourished children in Ethiopia as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, pursuing greatness with former President Bill Clinton and the Dalai Lama; and preparing a meal for top restaurant critics after lessons from super chefs including Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and Wolfgang Puck; and travelling to the G8 summit with celebrity activists including Bono, Bob Geldof and George Clooney.
