The Nutcracker, a two-act ballet, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s Der Nussknackert under Mausekoing is the third and last of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s great ballets. In the ballet, the central character, a little girl is given a nutcracker by her godfather for Christmas. She falls asleep and dreams that she defends it against the King of Mice. The nutcracker then changes into a handsome prince who takes her on a fabulous journey. This charming story makes The Nutcracker one of the most popular ballets ever.
The ballet is supported by the Novaya Opera Orchestra, under the baton of the well known conductor Valery Kristov. The orchestra has performed in the best concert halls of Russia and has a reputation for highly individual and expressive readings of classical compositions.
