NEW DELHI, India (eTurboNews) - AirAsia Berhad, a low-cost airline in Asia, and several media companies in Malaysia have joined hands to show their support for the plight that has hit Bali recently.
The New Straits Times Press Berhad and its group of newspapers, together with Malaysia's top private television channel, TV3 and its sister company 8TV, are calling out for Malaysians to "Don't turn Your Back on Bali." The airline will give a return air ticket to Bali to each of 1,000 winners in a weeklong campaign to support tourism on the Indonesian island-resort, which witnessed three blasts earlier this month.
"Bali has been good to AirAsia, and now it is time to repay our friends in their time of need. We are thrilled that the NSTP Group, TV3 and 8TV have joined our campaign to bring Malaysians from all walks of life to Bali. We aspire to bring hope, and support to show to the people in Bali that Malaysians are united behind Bali. The quick time in which Malaysians have rallied behind our Indonesian friends shows the commitment between our two great countries. We in AirAsia have always believed in the spirit of ASEAN, and today in our small way we show that the ASEAN spirit is alive. I would like to personally thank Datuk Kalimullah, and the media at NSTP Group, TV3 and 8TV for the support," said Tony Fernandes, Group chief executive officer, AirAsia Berhad.
Separately, the airline, as part of its Bali campaign themed, "To Bali, With Love," has announced that 5000 free seats are available for booking at the airline's Website or via mobile at mobile.airasia.com. The booking period is from 10-14 October, 2005. Traveling date is from 17 October 17 - 31 December, 2005. Three days advance booking is required.
In another development, AirAsia is expanding its wings to two new international routes; Chiang Mai in Thailand and Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Daily services to Chiang Mai would commence on 20 October, while daily flights to Phnom Penh would begin on 1 November. Both flights depart from KL International Airport.
"AirAsia would be the first and only airline to offer direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Chiang Mai. Thai AirAsia's upcoming venture into Vietnam on October 17th via flights to Hanoi from Bangkok, signals that the AirAsia Group has all but covered most of the major cities in Southeast Asia. We will continue to strive to add more points and connect more dots while offering low fares for a fraction of the costs, so that more people can fly," said Fernandes.
