NEW DELHI, India (eTurboNews) - Following the incident of a foreigner bathing naked in a holy lake in Pushkar town, chief minister of popular tourism state Rajasthan has been urged to sustain the sanctity of the place.
As per the information available, the state unit of Bhartiya Go-Vansh Rakshk Samvardhan Parishad urged Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on ensuring that such incidents of "vulgarity and obscenity do not get repeated." The use of liquor, night bars in hotels and restaurants in the holy city should also be contained, according to the concerned body.
The latest concern follows the act of a woman from Finland, who took a dip in the Pushkar lake in the nude and then chose to walk through the busy market to her hotel, around 300 meters away, in the same condition. Published reports indicate witnesses saw the Finnish woman took off her clothes before taking a dip at the lake around 4 pm. This irked several priests and locals who asked her to put on clothes. However, she refused and walked nude to her hotel, taking three to four minutes in the process. The walk caused chaos in the market. Several young men followed her passing lewd comments. The tourist has been visiting Pushkar for two to three years, according to a media report.
"We have framed charges of indecency against the lady tourist from Finland under section 294 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," Sugan Singh, a police officer in Pushkar, said. Under India's obscenity laws, the tourist can be imprisoned for three months or pay a fine.
Among other concerning incidents for locals, an Israeli couple was found guilty of obscenity for kissing during their marriage ceremony in Pushkar and were also fined recently.
Pushkar is 132 kilometers away from Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan. Located on the bank of the picturesque Pushkar Lake, Pushkar is an important pilgrimage spot for the Hindus, which has the only temple of Lord Brahma. Lord Brahma is known as the creator of the world as per the Hindu mythology.
As per the information available, an estimated 200,000 people from India and abroad are expected to visit the colorful week-long fairs and festivals of Pushkar in Rajasthan from November 8. The Pushkar fair is amongst the largest cattle fairs in the world.
