Exporting 60,000 tons of cooked chicken in first 9 months
To emphasize CP brand products under food safety standards
Adirek Sripratak, President and CEO of Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPF) said the exports of CPF both chicken and shrimp products continue growing, thanks to a rise of export orders, which reflect consumer confidence in CPF food safety and manufacturing standards.
This will help its exports of cooked chicken products reach the target of 80,000-90,000 tons this year, up from 60,383 tons in 2004. Meanwhile, the exports of its shrimp products would also skyrocket to 50,000 tons, compared with 11,227 tons last year, Mr. Adirek added.
In addition, CPF has a wide range of CP brand products available in the marketplace, including fresh chicken meat, frozen products, and cooked products, that will help boost its domestic and exports sales.
“The fact that CPF manufacturing standards of cooked chicken products are well recognized in international markets has turned the crisis of bird flu outbreak into an opportunity. Many European countries have shifted to import cooked chicken products. That helps boost our exports in the first nine months to a satisfactory level and assure that our sales target this year would reach THB 110 billion as projected,” Mr. Adirek said.
In the first nine months of this year (January to September) CPF exported 60,000 tons of cooked chicken products and another 30,000 tons of shrimp products.
Thailand has overcome the bird flu outbreak crisis in 2004. Since then, poultry operators have improved their farm management and upgraded processing standards, which will drive the country’s cooked chicken exports to reach a target of around 280,000 — 300,000 tons this year.
“At present, the supply of fresh chicken meat for domestic consumption is inadequate due to a shortage of breeding stocks and an increase in cooked chicken production. As a result, the domestic price of fresh chicken meat price has risen to THB39 per kilogram,” said Mr. Adirek. End.
