What do friends and business associates do when they are in Phuket and their interest is golf? Well, golf of course. American Express did exactly that when it organized the Phuket Golf Invitation 2005 on 14 October for a group of its leading merchants in Phuket. More than 60 golfers put their golfing skills to the test at Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa.
This was American Express’ way of saying thank you to its merchants in Phuket, who have been long-standing supporters warmly welcoming American Express Cardmembers at their establishments, many for a number of years.
Mr. Christopher Paul, American Express Director and Marketing Head of Global Establishment Services Thailand, said, “Our valued merchant partners have been very supportive of American Express in the past. Given what they have been through over the last several months, we wanted to thank them for their unwavering support and a round of golf amongst friends seemed a great way to do this. Everybody had a fantastic day, despite nobody taking home our top hole-in-one prize, a new Lexus RX300.”
American Express has been at the forefront in working with its merchants in Phuket and in promoting Phuket as an attractive destination market to its Cardmembers around the world, especially in the aftermath of the tsunami disaster.
Earlier this year, American Express launched the “Phuket Sunshine” program to help boost tourism in Phuket by offering exclusive privileges for hotels, resorts, restaurants and for other services. The company also moved a global conference of more than 700 employees from North America to Phuket. Most recently, it joined the Tourism Authority of Thailand to promote the program “Thailand Happiness on Earth” offering Cardmembers from around the world exclusive savings at leading hotels, restaurants and shops in key tourist destinations in Thailand, including Phuket.
